I just installed OcPortal on my site and love the layout and the theming ect ect…however one thing that I primarily need the site for is to be able to have a list of clients who each have access to their separate files. For example, each client (I have around 30 main ones) need to be each able to access their own individual report files, invoices and imagery without any other clients able to access (or even see for that matter) each others. Is this possible to do through OcPortal? If not, can someone point me in a right direction? I really liked the way Ocportal looks and the customization i was able to do with it, so if i could make this work within the system I would be delighted.

Thanks.

I'm thinking you use ZONES and assign permissions.

No one can see the zone except for the person allowed

That will pretty much do it.

Keep in mind that will be 30 zones.

Well-settled

Hi LF,

It seems you could simply do this by putting each company's staff in their own usergroup, and creating a download category for that staff that only their usergroup has access to.

I also noticed you said "invoices". ocPortal can do this for you. Perhaps with a little coding on the member page, you could have it for other stuff as well… but mot sure what other private info you have for each member's eyes only.

BTW, would love to check out your site.
Can you provide a url where you have ocPortal running?

There are alternatives, but the zones are going to be the most robust since basically it's a full blown sub site with all the power of ocPortal available per client.

A more modest approach would be using downloads with categories for each customer.  Again with permissions only the particular client can see the particular download section (category)  Then you could load up all the invoices, imagery, and report files for the customers, but there wont be any pretty previews without customization.

No matter what you do, it will still be 30 of something and a whole lot of permissions management.

Here's a gallery question. ocPortal allows personal galleries….

Is it possible to set gallery permissions so members can upload but only the member and administrator view it?

If yes, this would solve the invoices and images portion. And I still believe you can code something in the member page for your other personal stuff whatever that may be.

(Just trying to provide suggestions other than 30+ zones or 30+ usergroups.)

Right, well the way I understand galleries of the personal type is they get created when the user first uploads something and inherit permissions from the root gallery.

Otherwise, you have to lock down the root gallery and individually create 30 galleries for your users and set permissions accordingly.

Here again you can make it so no one but the particular can see the gallery in question.

I don't see a way to get around the 30 of something and permissions, but I'm open too it. These ocPortal folks are darn talented and they may have some magic up their sleeves

I guess it also depends on the question ocPortal Noob asked…

"Can we see the site?"

This might better help us provide more ideas.

Hey wow, thank you all for the responses and sorry I havn't been able to respond sooner, its been a busy day for me. And certainly, yea you can see the site, though nothing has been changed from the default installation yet, except some minor things. I am still very new to programming and thus this may be a fairly slow process to get everything working the way i need it too. But anyway, the site is at www.agsolutionsinc.ca/ocport Essentially I will be working at trying to get rid of most things on there if I can, for instance , I dont need forums, or feedback boxes or member "hangout" areas or anything like that. All I need is a site where my clients can log in, and be taken to a page that lists catagories such as…Reports, invoices, Imagery…ect as I mentioned earlier, and in those folders I will have uploaded their most recent files, and in reponse they can download those files and in return upload them after they have been able to check off certain projects. Anyway, appreciate all the help guys, Thanks.

Ok, so I have permission set up and all the sub categories under one clients name in the downloads section, however I was curios if anyone knew of a way to copy all these sub categories to each client so i don't have to re-create them all under their 'base' name folder. Basically the structure is like this, Clients name -> Reports, Imagery, Invoices, Labs and under each of those is other date directories, that structure is the same for each client. i was just curious if there was a quicker way to create these directories, like if its just some coding, or a matter of copy and pasting this structure to each clients folder and then uploading them to the site…

I'm hoping someone with more SQL experience than I can come  to your aid… but I know this could possible be done in phpMyAdmin.
