Bit of a newb question...

Apologies if this has been asked already (I am still getting used to the ocPortal system).
I have my site at www.dmkp.co.uk
I am wanting to fix up the download boxes so they don't get stretched like they do with images in which makes the text look wrong. I thought a way to do this would be to move the right hand panel, but how do I do that?
If I do move the right hand panel (say.. underneath the left hand panel) will that stay like that between ocportal software upgrades?

open the right hand panel and copy all the code to the left panel and save.  Now you will get a two column page.

Hope this help you out…

Harry

I've tried that, it won't let me save the right-panel as empty. If I delete the whole com-code page, it comes back but with less formatting o.o

Normally if there is no code behind in the zone-editer right panel, then it must be gone. With version do you have?

It's an updated one.
I must admit, had plenty of bugs since updating each time.

Is it possible to export all my content/changes etc and start with a fresh 9.01 installation?

There are to many changes in version 9, I think there are many old files stay over. its better that you have a testsite on a subdomain, so you could test things out before to start over

I told it to clean up unneeded files…

I am still unsure about how to move that panel? Is there another page underneath it I can edit the layout of the welcome zone?

It should work as Harry described. I just tested it on a 9.0.1 version test site upgraded from 8.1.3. What I did was click the Edit in zone editor link under the panel (doesn't matter which you click, either the right panel or left panel zone editor link).  once in the zone editor, I clicked the edit tab for the right column, clicked the link to disable WYSIWYG editing for the right panel editor, and then cut everything out from that editor box for the right panel. Clicked the edit tab for the left panel, clicked the link to disable WYSIWYG editing for the left panel editor, and pasted in what I copied out of the right panel. Scrolled down to the bottom of the page clicked Save, waited for the page to refresh back to the main page and the right panel column was gone and its contents were now in the left panel where I pasted them.

If that doesn't work, I'd guess that maybe you have got some file(s) being overridden somewhere.

I note the normal Comcode page editor won't let you save a page as blank (but the Zone editor, described in posts above, will). That could be considered a bug – we will fix.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
