So I have news/blogs (and news_shared, syndication, & syndication_blocks) installed and I've added a few test news and blog posts. I thought they would auto-populate to the home page in an rss feed sorta way but my home page is still blank. Is there something I need to add to my main panel before they show up? I'm sure this is a case of me being dumb so go ahead and assume I am.

I had some issues with syndication & syndication_blocks when I first installed. Apparently I deselected something I wasn't supposed to in the setup wizard and  was getting fatal errors. Maybe I don't have all the addons needed installed?

On a side note I also have forum_blocks enabled and a few test forum posts. I thought it would show my latest forum posts on the home page in it's own little block but if that is the case it's not working either.

Here's a pic showing what I mean by empty page (I do have a sidebar and all that good stuff).

What code have you got for your front page? I mean other than the 'Welcome' title and the 'main_greeting' block?

 O_o

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Well...I think I see where this is going  I thought the code was automatically added when the addon was installed... I guess not. So now I need to find out where all these codes are listed.  Are these considered blocks, or comcode, or tempcode, or...?

Basically I want to feed the latest news and blogs to the home page, in separate sections if possible, and also the latest forum posts in its own block too. Any advice on where to look? I suppose the backend and frontend code books would be a good start?

This is the code in place now:

Code

<h1 class="screen_title">
    <span class="inner"><span class="inner"><span class="inner"><span class="inner">Welcome to {$SITE_NAME*}</span></span></span></span></h1>
<input class="ocp_keep_ui_controlled" readonly="readonly" size="45" title="" type="text" value="main_greeting (dbl-click to edit/delete)" /> <input class="ocp_keep_ui_controlled" readonly="readonly" size="45" title="" type="text" value="main_comcode_page_children (dbl-click to edit/delete)" />

Well, yes and no!

The code is automatically added dependent on the choice you make about what sort of website you wish to run. That's a bit of a guessing game by the developers, because they cannot know for certain which elements you are going to use.

However, let's not get into a muddle about this. You can add to, or take away, whatever first appears by default. Simply go to the 'Edit this page' link and you should get something like this …

… and you can see that there is an 'add block' button which, when clicked, gives you this …

… where you make your selection(s).

The image in my first attachment shows the sort of 'code' that appears on the page, and there are 'customised' bits in there that you really don't need to be concerned about for the site you are building. I've used only COMCODE, but you can use HTML too by wrapping all the code within the relevant 'html' or 'semihtml' tags. That code was used for a theme I've added to the themes section, called 'Minimal', and this is whast it looks like …

Hope all that has been helpful and not served to confuse the issue for you …

Fletch you seem to always save my day. After I disabled the wysiwyg editor it was all too clear thanks to you.

Ya know, every time I run into a roadblock I suspect it will be something complicated or there's some long codex to go through (like with most CMS's) yet it always turns out the dev's have already thought about it and it's easily solved. I'm impressed.

Thank you Fletch, yet again
