Any ideas on how to custumize this page?

I'm in the middle of an attempt to leverage the OCportal as a secure messaging system. I would like to be able to access the page file for the Private Topic. Does anyone have experience with this. I have found a way to add custom fields to the topic page but I would also like to add a section with some instructions and other image files as examples for users.
Your efforts are appreciated!

Depending on exactly whatyou want to do there could be a couple ways to go about this.

I believe there is a "Private Topic Rules" which you could set up to do your examples and instructions. but if there is something you want added to every PT then I suppose you might need to edit the templates. I am not sure exactly which templates are best to edit - I did a quick browse of the list and didn't see much which are specifically PT related but I would assume one of the ocf Topic templates withsome tempcode to check if it is a PT is probably the route to go.

You should read up on  Tempcode Programming first (although a complex topic at first if you persist you should grasp the basics easy enough)

Then look through the ocf templates related to topics and see if you can figure out where and what to do.

If you have trouble finding your way I am sure some of us can help you narrow things down

I did attempt to utilize the user PT rules as you suggested, that does help me get a little further in my efforts, but I want to change the actual page content. The description of a private topic for example. If I want to change that paragraph I have to try to search it out in the files on my server? Not sure how to edit this forum, it is not listed as a typical page, but has distinct differences from the other forum posts.
Anyone ever make changes to this area that could help point me in the right direction?

To edit a topic description you will need to edit the database directly.

Its in the t_description column of the ocpo_f_topics table. Search id column for the topic id.

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S / Galaxy S II ? If so, why not check out my ScreenFree FM Radio .

I'm not following this conversation properly, but I think he was probably talking about something that comes from language strings.

However, I'm pretty sure you can change the content-based topic description on the edit topic screen (under the control functions dropdown for the topic).

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

After re-reading the posts, I think you are right Chris. It might be the DESCRIPTION_PERSONAL_TOPICS language string from ocf, which states:
These are your private topics. Only you and the people you are talking to can see them (and the highest level of website staff).

Right again Chris. I guess seeing the title editable in regular post editing threw me a bit.
