Hi,
Is there a way to map a custom comcode to return the result of a php function?
If not, is there a chance that such a feature could be included sometime in the furutre? It would be nice to have the option to make [something]Parameter[/something] returning function something($parameter) …..

Hi,

It is possible to create a systems/comcode hook to add in a new tag using PHP. Our 'flip' addon is an example of this:

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Actually now that I look at it now, I realise there is no need to write a hook. The hook just is an alternative way to create a Custom Comcode tag. Useful for addons, as you don't need to tell people what to put into the form to add it.

Both use Tempcode in the substitution text, and it is possible to either reference a block in that Tempcode ({$BLOCK,block=blockname,example_param={EXAMPLE_PARAM}}), or just write PHP code in there <?php ... ?> (ocPortal will tell you to turn on an option to allow it though).
