I was wondering if there was any way to change the icons used in the main-activities block from the stock images to the member's avatar who made the post. Below is an example of what I'm asking. I just think it would look nicer and be more appealing to members to have the "social" network feel like Facebook.

Also it seems there is a weird glitch in the activities block. When any member friends another it posts 2 activities. 1st is the "friending" between the members which looks fine, but then it also posts another that says the member friended them self. Again if you look at the first and second post in my activities sample image above you'll see what I'm talking about.

Anyway as always thank you so much for everything you do to help I truly appreciate that, and thank you in advance for any help you can give on this topic.

Sincerely,
Mike Carlson (Local MC)

Thanks Chris, but unfortunately I've never done anything like this with my site before and I'd hate to screw it up. I have over 2 years in developing my site and have messed it up a couple of times which turned out to be mild nightmares. Can you possibly walk me through it step by step so I can avoid making any mistakes? Mike

The TAR contains a few files to be uploaded. If you are scared about it, simply save the files you are going to replace from your server first, so you could put the old versions back again if you needed to.

Ok, so I managed to figure out what was needed to apply this fix. I did download the original files before I uploaded the fix files, however my website had an issue with the activities.php file. I got a critical error message when I tried to view the fix after I uploaded the 3 fix files. I then replaced the activities.php file with the original and everything came back, but it looks like the issue is still there and the icons are not the member avatars.
Any suggestions on what could be wrong with the activities.php and how I might be able to fix it?

Mike

It assumes you are running the latest ocPortal v9, and the latest version of the activities addon.

If you are, you'll need to tell us what precise error message you saw.

I am using ocportal version 9.0.1, and my activities is v9.

Below is a screen shot of the error I'm getting:

It is an old version of the activities addon. I think if you look on your Admin Zone front page it will invite you to upgrade it.

We don't individually version these between releases but it should tell you if it's been updated.

The only upgrade available was the 9.0.8 which I went ahead and did. I still do not see an upgrade for the activities add-on, and in my side_personal_stats block the member avatar is no longer centered. It's shifted to left justified.

After I upgraded my ocportal version I tried again to replace the files with the 'fix' file and got the same critical error message.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Mike Carlson (Local MC)

Chris,

So I've been playing with this for awhile and I think I'm getting closer. I went ahead and re-installed the activities add-on and of course upgraded my ocportal from 9.0.1 to the new 9.0.8. I am no longer getting the critical error message, but I am getting a error message. In the attached image below you'll see the new error message in the upper left of my site.

Other than that is seems to be working better. I'd still like to see the member's avatars instead of the stock icons in the status posts, and the side_personal_stats showing the member avatar out of center, but at least it isn't crashing on me ;)

Let me know about the new error message and the possibility of the member's avatars when you can, and thanks again for all your help.

Okay, I can see you've previously granted me admin access to your site – so I'll go ahead and fix these things quickly, as you've been a bit inconvenienced so far in this topic ;).

Okay, avatar block thing was a bug I wasn't aware of.

I have fixed up the further activities bug, and as a favour I have upgraded your theme's activity feed CSS (it was outdated, so looked very wonky) and done the icon->avatar change.

Chris,

I have one last question for you. I noticed that a new upgrade for ocportal (9.0.9) just released. I'd like to go ahead and upgrade but I want to be sure it wont affect any of the work you did first. Let me know when you get a chance and thank you again for everything.

It should be fine, but you do not need to. Whether you do or not, is unrelated, and unaffected, by this topic.
