Anyone interested in supporting this feature?

The issue filed in the tracker by me some time agao is here:

0000545: Allow Multiple Selection of Cross Catalogue Entries - ocPortal feature tracker

Basically I am looking for the ability to select as a multiple selection list items from one catalogue as a field in another.

For instance I may like to have a recipe's Catalogue and for each recipe entry I would like to allow users to select multiple ingredients from an ingredients catalogue that goes with their recipe. I am sure there are hundreds of use cases that could be described for this type of feature and it would really improve the catalogues system immensly.

Chris has estimated 5 hours to complete the task, which, if I were to try and tackle myself I know would probably be more like 40+ hours since I would have to learn how all the code in the catalogue system works first so I would much rather have Chris do it lol. However, I can't afford the support credits required myself (even if they aren't that much) so I am appealing to the community to help sponsor this feature so we can see if we can get it rolled out in the future.

If you can (and would like to) help sponsor this feature please indicate your intentions to do so here so we can see how close we can get to having something like this implemented.

Thanks,

Duck

I am very interested in this, as it would allow me to do more with my publications listings for cross-catagory/different types of catagory, views. How much are we looking at needing to get this done?

Currently there is a support credit sponsered by Fletch. Each credit is 5.50 british pounds and we need a total of 30 credits (or $165 pounds) I do know there is someone ready to sponsor several credits so any contributions from anyone no matter how small will make a difference to bringing this to sponsored.

I am going to see if I can sponser a credit or 2 myself. Have a huge number of bills due this month as it is renewal period for me but we will see.

We are at 10 Credits folks. Now is a good time for those that were thinking about sponsoring a credit or 2 to hop in and help out. This project is on its way to being funded woot! I think it is one many would benefit from indeed.

I will do everything I can to shake the tree here and see if I can contribute to this, as it would do some wonderful things for me...and I would love to support the funding of it.

That would be awesome! Every little bit helps. Looking forward to seeing this one in the pipeline.

Just an update to everyone that thanks to Fletch and especially Sholzy so far we are 63% of the way to full sponsorship of this feature.

It is an excellent time for those thinking about adding to the project to take action and help make this happen.

The sooner you help the sooner  it might be possible for the developers to start working on it so help today. You and everyone else will be glad you did! Thanks all!

I am afraid to report, my computer died last week. I've recovered my stuff onto a temporary solution, but am going to have to spend the $$ I was gathering to fund this, on getting myself a new main computer. I really, really, wish I could contribute here.

Wow sorry to hear about your woes. I've been there before a couple times and am really scared of it happening again cause most of my backup systems are too slow and crappy for me to turn to if the main machine dies. It would really be hard to go from a quad 4gh 8 gig ram to half the specs. I would explode viens in each temple I am sure I can't aford to replce it right now.

I'm dreaming what it would be like moving up to  your "half specs"…     Your half specs are double my specs!

Yeah but my half specs take 4 times as long to do anything! lol Once you get used to fairly instantaneous response going to something you have to wait 30 seconds or a minute for each action is a path to insanity.

But your half specs are 8 times faster than what my quarter specs are. Some people have all the power and still aren't happy!

Hehe don't get me wrong i am fairly happy with my current specs it is going backwards that i wouldn't be happy with lol. But I can see your point if my half specs are double yours. Mind you it is more than specs that machine runs painfully slow even with a complete rebuild of the HD so I suspect some sort of hardware issue inside. No money to fix and no time to fiddle. But if this one blows up then I am forced to use it. lol

All I know is I'm looking at what I should buy as far as a new computer or laptop. Windows 8 here I come I guess. Gonna buy as much computing power as I can afford, and still wish I was spending that $$ on this feature, because in reality, I need this feature as much as I need a new computer. If I didn't have to have my own computer to USE this feature, I would wait on the new computer…but I can't run my business from my wife's laptop…

You get more Bang for the buck when  buying a tower that you do a laptop but there is the question of portability. If that ranks high in importance to you then a laptop it is if it' is more important to have more power then a desktop it is.

That's your first starting question your next is what is your budget and how much bang can be squeezed out of it.

Now adays a pretty smokin machine can be built under $500 (I am not really counting monitor here but even if necessary that can fit insides this budget) and a half decent laptop.

Thanks to Fletch and Sholzy this has reached 100% Sponsorship! Thanks guys! I am sure the whole community will enjoy this feature when it becomes available. We all owe you a debt of gratitude for helping to make this a realization!

For those that had wanted to help sponsor this but couldn't please show your thanks by helping to sponsor another feature in the future when you are able to.

I will, I promise! I want to set my sights on that USPS shipping plug in for the shopping cart in 2013...which should open the door for shipping through UPS, Fed Ex, etc...

Mostly thanks to sholzy; I just 'topped up'. So, BIG THANKS to Steve!

The feature is one that interests and intrigues me, and I would be delighted to see it incorporated into a future patch release. I still haven't figured out how I will incorporate it into my current site, but that will be an interesting journey in itself.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Hi all,

Great to see the success of this being sponsored :).

I expect development will happen in early January, as things are a bit busy right now (mid-way through a medium-sized project, at tail-end of a large project - which will be exciting to show you all).

We'll release a patch for v9. However this won't come within an actual patch release, as that would break release policy – I expect it would come in either v9.1 or v10.

Chris

I am confused, I looked at the tracker for all these things, and it is the cross-catalog thing that got funded and NOT the ability to put one entry into multiple categories??? I'm not sure what got funded here, is the ability to do what I have been hoping to be able to do. If it's not, I'll be going back to the drawing board trying to get the function I need funded (after I buy a new computer which I am hoping to do here very soon).
