A few short weeks ago, I embarked on a journey to rid myself of the nasty tobacco habit. At that time, Chris and ocProducts were gracious enough to offer me 1 hour of development time if I managed to get past the 4 week marker. Here we are today, week #5 underway, and I've taken Chris up on his offer. Here's what we came up with: I felt that the generous ocProducts gift would be used to it's maximum advantage if I gave it back to the OCP community…something akin to the "give a fish, feed for a day, teach how to fish, feed for a lifetime" wise words. I have asked Chris, and he has agreed, to put together a "skeleton" or "framework" type addon (incomplete in nature) that shows, by example, some of the functions that OCP can do and how to do them. I suggested we look at something like the thebigman's addon request (here
) as a starting point, however, I will leave it entirely up to Chris and Co. as they will know best how to put this together to maximize the examples given. The overall goal here is to kick start by example the addon creation process for OCP. I feel that once the ball gets rolling, we will start to see some amazing and kewl addons. My contribution to all of this is to develop my first addon, but do it right here in these forums so that others can also benefit from my learning. Together, we can create addons that will vault OCP over the competition.
So, to all reading: this is a heads up of what is coming down the pipe. If you are interested in joining in in the fun, I would recommend at least a gloss over of these docs: Tutorials - ocPortal.com
, bottom of the page and expand "Progmattic customisation". IMHO, the CodeBook is a real good beginning.
