If my memory is correct both ecommerce and the point store require(d) using the ocf forum.
Is there documentation on (a list of) major features which require the ocf driver?

Thank you very much.

  • Usergroup subscriptions
  • Anything ocPortal might reasonable assume was a job for the forum software itself (e.g. signup)
  • Anything that would involve interfacing with a forum in a way that assumed the forum had more than a common denominator of functionality (e.g. name highlighting purchase in the point store, which would assume that the forum came with a name highlighting function). Remember that ocPortal does not modify the code of the forum, it interfaces with the forum as it comes.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks for the fast answer Chris.
Maybe I was wrong about ecommerce, I'll give it a try.

Several fields added to the third party forum users table are related to ecommerce, but…

@ 'adminzone/index.php?page=admin_ecommerce&type=ecom_usage'

"You are not using the inbuilt forum system (OCF), so this module can not function."

Hmm, I think that's actually a bug then. Not many people use forum drivers or eCommerce, very few use both – so it's not a well tested combination. IIRC only usergroup subscriptions aren't supposed to work and therefore this barrier you see probably is us accidentally blocking off more than we should for that. You can force them on via a hidden option (we don't support it but it may well work).

Typing this into OcCLE will enable usergroup subscriptions and also work around this bug:

Code

:set_value('unofficial_ecommerce','1');

Ah, no, I'm slightly wrong.

Usergroup subscriptions don't officially support non-OCF, although the above option turns on our untested code.

The shopping cart does not support non-OCF because it runs queries direct on the OCF members table when looking at orders made. That could be resolved with a few hours extra work but we felt if people wanted an integrated cart (instead of a better dedicated system) they probably also wanted an integrated forum too.

Because the only bundled eCommerce is usergroup subscriptions and the shopping cart, that's why the eCommerce page in the Admin Zone is disabled. That's a bit too hard-coded for my liking, I think I'll tweak it a bit. Doing that OcCLE command will resolve it though.

I looked through the code for all instances of the error message you reported, there are no other cases not discussed in this topic (except for these non-bundled addons: ocGiftGiver, ocDeadPeople).
