Hi, a user uploads a video in the gallery area but has to also upload a logo (image)

turns out that the logo (image) is shown but then the video is blacked out, see attachments.

All you can hear is sound:

That is not an h264 file, so it's not web compatible. It has the mp4 container type, and MPEG4 video codec. It needs mp4 container type and h264 video codec.
Codecs and the terminology involved are extremely confusing. MPEG4 video and h264 video are both "MPEG 4 formats", and can be stored in an mp4 container, but h264 is entirely different to MPEG 4 video.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

No browsers or plugins can play an mp4 that doesn't have h264 video, so nothing really unless you invest in a transcoding system on your server. The user needs to either upload something a plugin can play (e.g. an MPEG4 AVI has a higher chance of working, because WMV and QT can both probably handle it), or h264 mp4 (which will play either directly via the browser, or Flash, depending on what's available).

No problem. Like most web developers, I think the video codec situation sucks badly.
