Hi,

I noticed that we can enter a reason for editing posts, but this reason doesn't show up on the post or anywhere else it seems. Is there some code that I need to add to the template to include this or could it be a config issue?

Thank you!

I don't believe edits show up for the person who made the edits and it also may only be for admins but not sure.

*edited here to see if I see my own edit reason.

Yes I just edited this post and do not see my edit listed but I think you should (unless it is admins only)

It's just for the audit logs. We'll better document that.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Now that you mention it, I can't see the reasons listed in there either.

It would be kind of cool if it would display on posts and such - especially when a mod edits a user's post as they don't have access to the logs. I know it does on vBulletin, SMF (with a mod), and MyBB has a plug-in for it as well.

Ok so I checked on one of my sites and I can see the reason under the audit log and while clicking the history button I cannot see the reason I can see a difference between posts.

But to see the reason in the audit log after you bring up the log for edit posts click the date of the post that you want to view and the reason should be listed in the popup window that appears

Maybe you can add a custom post field for this. It'd be on the full add topic/add reply form as well as the edit post form, but it's something.

There's an idea     Thank you.

I take it there's no way for me to add this to the post templates if I edit the file then? I'm guessing it would be in OCF_TOPIC_POST_LAST_EDITED.tpl

Maybe something like {LAST_EDIT_REASON*} after:

Expand: Code Code

Or would that require an addition to the database table and changes elsewhere?

If not it's okay as I'll just use your suggestion, but it would be nice as I'm going to be having a few extra fields, which considerably lengthens the add topic/post page as it is. :)

"Or would that require an addition to the database table and changes elsewhere?" - yes, that's the main issue.
