PayPal wants 3.5 % !

Hi Forum,

I'm busy trying out eCommerce .. but I see PayPal wants 3.5% plus in fees.
For what? For nothing! Beep Beep Them !

I see the tutorial says ocportal is tied to a payment sevice.....

I would be much better to simply send a email to the customer, when he "checks out", with all the transaction details. Many customers would prefer that anyway (in South Africa).

Any advice on how I should go about that ?

Regards,
Nick

Well-settled

You might want to reconsider PayPal. Unless they do not support transactions in your currency, they are the most recognized payment gateway for the internet.

There are many others to be sure but the fees are only a part of the e-commerce issues. Trust is among the most pressing issues when setting up an e-commerce site.

Thanks Curtisbrew,

Yes, for the majority of sites and online businesses I'm sure it's necessary/better to use PayPal.

I was just hoping OCportal had a option to choose not to use any such service.

Ideally, when a first time customer "checks out" he should simply be asked for his email address and details, and then a email with all the purchase details should be sent to him. There are many advantages to this method, depending on what you are selling etc. etc.

Instead, I have tried unchecking the ecommerce tick box in the Catalog setup - so now my site simply lists the products available ...... well, not a great idea - it would be nice if the customer could select what he wants or might purchase. I don't need to force him to purchase on the spot !

Regards,
Nick

PS : Hey ! Someone just told me the internet is 21 today ! Is that right ?

I think Technically YES and NO

If my memory serves me correctly the internet was actually conceived in 1989 but the World Wide Web (technically 2 different things but the one in which you are referring to) was born in either 92 or 93 but I am just going off memory here and I am sure a google search could clarify but I am too lazy lol.
