Hi,

I am building an educational community environment for older people in Asia and so we would prefer using email as login to save them headache from coming up with a cool username.

So far I found out that I need to change ocf_join.php but I am having trouble finding the other files that I have to change.
For example, I cannot find where the script "username_check" is.

Are there many files that I have to change?
Is it worth it to go through the trouble?

I have a tight deadline to meet and I am not sure if I should spend much time on this issue or to implement it once we do get complaints from users.

It's an option already to allow email login. To get rid of usernames entirely though would be a few days of work even for me.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Hi Chris,

Thank you.  As you can see I am really new to ocPortal.
So where can I activate this option?  I am sure I just didn't see it!

Regarding changing the code to get rid of username,
I think I will see what happens after activating the option to communicate with my teammates.

Thank you once again!

It's actually the "Restrict to one member per e-mail address" option. Adding that constraint implies email login can work, so ocPortal allows it.
