Coppermine &amp; ocP

On my site I run ocP for most of my content and Coppermine for my image gallery. Of course, these are two seperate systems that talk to different databases for content, user info, etc. The main problem with this is that it is necessary to have users sign up seperately for the portal and the gallery. This = headache and confusion. I wanted to see what other people had run into dealing with combining 2 disperate systems to use the same usernames. I kinda want to get a feel for what I am about to get myself into so I ~~have time to cry about it~~ won't be suprised once I delve into it. :lol:

I used to use coppermine as it could use the IPB user database but I switched the the gallery built into ocPortal.
I do find the gallery for ocPortal better and so do my members.
The only thing ocPortal gallery does not have that coppermine does is ecard, but no one on my site used that any way.

I run Otaku Play Ground and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

OK… well maybe it will work. Here's what I am trying to do. I have each user add an album for each model that they build. Each album only contains pics of one model, in other words. When you look in the model gallery now and click on a user, it shows basically a portfolio of all their work and I like this, though the layout is not quite what I want. The goal was to have a DeviantArt-esque gallery but instead of highlighting one picture I would have mutiples accessible from one page. What I mean by that is that each user has their unique gallery and when someone wants to look at a model, everything would be right there on one page with clickable pics to get a better view of each. It's a little hard to explain, and I am thinking that I am going to need someone who is much better at PHP than I to help me out.

Wow… that kinda just spilled out of my brain and onto this post. On first glance, I didn't think that the gallery included in ocP would do what I wanted, but I'll give it another look. No matter what, it's not going to be exactly what I am looking for, but perhaps it will solve some of the other issues I am having.

Another thing that I would like to do is in additon to allowing the users to search by modeler, I would like for them to be able to use categories and sub categories to find exactly the kind of models they are looking for. Here is an example:

I want to see all the models Jeff built, so I go to Jeff's gallery and see that he has vehicle and character models, but I don't see all the pictures; perhaps a representative image for each model. Going into the album of one of the vehicles I see all the pics of this one model, in which clicking on each one gives a larger view.
Now I decide that I want to see all the models in the vehicle category. I click on that category and see the representative images for a variety of different models from different people.

Is this example feasible with what is currently in place with ocP?

This would only be possible if you manually set up the 'category' subgalleries for each member.

However, you can do something similar automatically. You can set up galleries for all the different 'categories' (e.g. vehicles, characters) and then set those galleries to be 'member gallery containers'. Members may then automatically create their own galleries underneath those galleries.

OK. I am going with the later where I have setup categories and I want my users to automatically create their own galleries. I have given them unvetted add and self-edit. How do I allow them to create galleries and upload files? They don't have the option to go to Content Management.

Thanks. I will see how this works out.

While I am thinking about it… I've attached my concept for what I would like the individual model pages to look like. I know this is a CSS and codeing issue, but I was wondering how feasible you guys and gals think it is. It looks to me to just be a layout issue and adding some new fields to the gallery creation process, but maybe you "more smarter than me" people can tell me what I can expect.

For some thing like that you could use the catalogues feature but there is not image uplaoder so they would have to be uploaded some other way.
Another option would be to use the cedi but there is not comments with that.
At this time I guess I am not sure.

Even after making them member galleries, when I go to the gallery as one of my users, I do not get the option to upload a file, and I do not see the categories that I created.
