I noticed a few things while playing with comments today.
When A comment is made it makes the title say (#catalogues_3) and when I edit that out the system no longer sees it as a comment topic.
If it has to remain can I make it say (#Database_3) as I renamed the catalogues database in the language files.

Another thing I noticed is it says

comments system said

This is a spacer post for an ocPortal comment topic. The content this topic relates to: .hack//sign

I would like it to say this.

Me said

This is a spacer post for an .hack//sign comment topic. The content of this topic is elates to: .hack//sign

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

I looked in the php files for both comments and feedback and I am still not finding how to change this.
My next thing I will try is the catalogues php files.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

I finally got it.

Code

   // Feedback
   if ($feedback_details)
   {
      require_code('feedback');
      do_rating($entry['allow_rating'],'database',$id);
      do_comments($entry['allow_comments'],'database',$id,build_url(array('page'=>'catalogues','type'=>'entry','id'=>$id),get_module_zone('catalogues')),$map['FIELD_0_PLAIN_PURE'],get_value('comment_forum__catalogues__'.$catalogue_name));
      //do_trackback($myrow['allow_trackbacks'],'database',$id);
      $map['COMMENT_DETAILS']=get_comment_details('database',$entry['allow_comments'],$id,false,get_value('comment_forum__catalogues__'.$catalogue_name));
      $map['RATING_DETAILS']=get_rating_text('database',$id,$entry['allow_rating']);
      $map['TRACKBACK_DETAILS']=get_trackback_details('database',strval($id),$entry['allow_trackbacks']);
   }
Thats what I put in the sources/catalogues.php and it does what I want.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Lines 360-362 of sources/catalogues.php would need some minor changes:

Code

      do_comments($entry['allow_comments'],'Database',$id,build_url(array('page'=>'catalogues','type'=>'entry','id'=>$id),get_module_zone('catalogues')),$map['FIELD_0_PLAIN_PURE'],get_value('comment_forum__catalogues__'.$catalogue_name));
      //do_trackback($myrow['allow_trackbacks'],'catalogues',$id);
      $map['COMMENT_DETAILS']=get_comment_details('Database',$entry['allow_comments'],$id,false,get_value('comment_forum__catalogues__'.$catalogue_name));

(best to copy the sources/catalogues.php file into sources_custom and make the change to that copy)

The spacer thingy is in global language file. Again, best to copy this so you're editing into lang_custom/EN/global.ini.

Note that changing either of these things will disassociate any existing comment topics you may have, and to reassociate them you'd need to manually edit the topic-titles/spacer-posts so that they match the new expectations.

The current topics are not a problem as I unassociated them in the first place which was how this problem started.
Yes I do every thing in the custom.
It does look like I may have edited to much when I look at your compared to mine.

It's just you've changed the rating and trackback codenames also - so those will also be disassociated.

New problem with this.
It says the topic was started by the user name and not display name.
Is there a way to change this?

There's currently no display name support at all, but this is under consideration for the future.

I was wondering though and I have been looking. Could the feed back be changed to look for that field?
Its not to big a deal yet as I can either edit the comments with out making any changes and after I hit save changes it shows the correct name.
I can also run the rebuild tools which also works.
I actually set up a task that runs every day that will run the rebuild tools.

As a programming task, yes.

so what kind of a task is this cuz today I found a huge problem.
One one of the comments no one could get into it from the main forum they had to click on the sub forum and click on it, basically what happened it is was showing a new post but not the title.
To get it to show the title I had to edit it with out making any changes and then save it, which fixed it.
So are these tasks like the ones In IPB or hireing some one?

I've reviewed the standard ocPortal code, and I don't think there is any way for this to happen in it, so I think this must have either been caused by a code modification, or some kind of database corruption; although I accept there is a small chance I could be mistaken here. If the problem persists and there have been no changes to the commenting code, please let us know.

By programming task, I mean a task requiring a programmer to do it. Basically, recoding part of ocPortal. ocPortal was designed from the very start to not have separate 'display name' and 'username' concepts – infact, I think no forums we supported had such a distinction originally. To change ocPortal properly would require a complete review of a vast amount of code. However, I imagine some less major changes could be made in specific areas to 'hack' in some support.
The problem I have here is that I can't go and conduct a review of it because it would take me a few hours just to do that, and hence I have to consider this a feature suggestion.

The 'hack' would not just a matter of changing a little bit of code: additional code would need to be written from scratch. It probably would only be a few lines, but it would require a detailed understanding of the IPB database structure and ocPortal API to do it.

Need help with this again.

Found this topic to help me figure out how to change the title of the comment topic created when I use.

Code

[block="something" forum="..."]main_comments[/block].

But can not figure out which file to edit.

If you like you can pass in another parameter called 'page',

Code

[block="something" page="somethingelse" forum="..."]main_comments[/block]

Without passing it in it defaults to the name of the page the block is on ('downloads' in your case).

Other than changing "something" and "somethingelse", you can't control the topic title any further (it'll always have underscores in).
