Is there a way to have an entry in more then one category?

It would be super awesome and save me a whole lot of time if it could.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Darn another question then, if you have a lot of entries in a catagory is there a way to create links so it pulls up entries starting with a letter.
It would just make it easier not to create lettered categories under each category.

Like say you have it sorted by title and you want to see all the titles starting with B. You would need to navigate through a lot of pages just to get to the B's.

There's something similar, the A-Z index. You can find it using the menu editor, it's on the Site Tree browser under the catalogue (in the Site Tree browse browse to Site then Catalogues then the catalogue name and you should see itthere).

Oh like the A-z Index for wordpress. Strange how I keep finding similar features. Although it is a plug in for wordpress. lol

Is it this?

Index: Anime - Absolute Otaku

Hmm must not be as it is not showing the entries in A-Z order just the categories.

It's this:
Spreading the word of default - Absolute Otaku
but clearly not working on your site, how embarrassing. I'll look into it tomorrow.
It's a feature we added in for a client so it's not something we've put much energy into beyond what the client needed. I'll give your use case a bit more thought tomorrow.

Cool thanks, I could not find that in the edit menus but no worries.

I am good at finding bugs, found a lot lately, no surprise I am using a beta. Site is not live yet so no biggy.

Hmm and I need to change where it says spreading the word of default.

Regarding your feature requests, they are now both on the tracker but low priority (so don't hold out any hope to be honest):
0000063: Multi-categorisation - ocPortal feature tracker
0000226: Allow jumping through results browsers alphabetically - ocPortal feature tracker
I wouldn't have put them there is I didn't like the ideas though.

Regarding it missing from the Site Tree and not working, I guess those bugs cancel each other out ;). But I am working on this next.

This should fix it all. The link I gave you is wrong, but you can find the right one on the menu editor again now.

I didn't know I was requesting features. As you know I am switching from wordpress to ocportal and that seems to be the only feature that ocportal does not have that wordpress does have. I hope it does get added as I am betting it would help more then just me if it did get added although unlike in the past I do not have friends pushing me to suggest features in ocportal. This time it is just my own personal needs.

Although I do find it odd that the features I used and needed in wordpress are in the catalogues system on ocportal and not the blog system. Like the fields.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Well, the new policy is to organise our feature plans in public view whilst saying clearly not to actually build expectations from it.

Blog field adding would be covered in:
0000134: Tie catalogues to normal modules - ocPortal feature tracker

wow the description on that is confusing. Any way I think this A-z index things is still not working correctly as it is not showing any entries.

Yeah, definitely written in programmer-speak. But if it gets done it covers what you're looking for with blog fields.

Fix attached.

awesome it is working and it even shows the different fields.

Oh and going back to the blog thing. I like that idea but honestly I do not want to use the blog. I would more like to import from wordpress into the catalogues instead of into the blogs.
Because one of the main reasons I am switching from wordpress to ocportal is do to way to many people thinking the site was a blog and not a anime database.
