I want to make a few blocks here.
1. that displayes forum topics only from the news forum.
2. one that shows the top 5 new posts.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Both are availeble?

1. Forum News Block (ony for OCF Users )
2. kinda exists, It shows the 5 most recent posts in general chat

What you could try, is copy the complete forum topics module ( if it is a module ) and instead of general chat  let it call another forum.. I think there might be some issues when you put 2 of them together, so there must be some coding done..

We've got several blocks available for displaying information like that.
What you probably want is the main_forum_topics block. :)

Actually the main_forum_topics block takes an optional parameter naming the forum. All the block parameters are documented in one of our tutorials, or the 'add block' tool allows you to fill them in visually.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

It's the zone editor. As long as ocPortal thinks you have Javascript enabled, the 'Edit Page' links under panels will take you there :).

I have been  trying since I posted this and I still can not find it.
The tatorials are confusing. What might be nice is pics like have pics of al lthe blocks and you click on them and it walks you though how to set each one up.
I am more confused now that I was.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I'll quote the right part of the documentation directly for you:

main_forum_topics
Description Shows the topics in a forum.
Use If you want to show the active topics on your main website.
The name of the forum from which to display topics. May be a comma-separated list. Using forum IDs instead of names is more efficient. Default: 'General chat'. Note: do not refer to a restricted forum or your security will be eroded.
The number of the most recent topics to display. Default '6'.

Whilst it might look a bit technical really it's quite simply:

Code

[block="The Name Of My Forum"]main_forum_topics[/block]

p.s. That's a good idea - there's a good chance we'll do it next time we do a big documentation upgrade.

There are 'add block' buttons on the comcode page editor and zone editor :).

Ok so I ignore the 2 posts by leon. I know he was trying to be helpful but his did not work. It still left me looking for how to tell it which forum to pull it from, which I went looking in the admin panel for a why to change where it was looking.
