Unfortunately I need to deannounce the first item:
Autosaving of form text fields, so that form contents may be easily recovered if the web browser crashes, or the login session is lost.
The basis for the feature has turned out to be unstable on some servers (including this one).
However, we'll leave the code there, commented out in JAVASCRIPT.tpl for re-enabling if anyone wants to try it out on their own servers.
I did some playing with it and I found it to be a bit annoying because from my findings it keeps popping up a window of the last post you made even if the browser did not crash.
So I do find it a good thing its not active by default how ever it does sound like a good feature. This is a feature IPb does not even have that I am aware of.
I was wondering though could an none auto save feature be added, like a draft type thing so that if you are typing a long post you can save half way though it and if the browser does crash you can go though drafts and finish it.  Just an idea I had. The idea kind of did come from the way gmail autosaves when your typing an email and you can always delete the drafts later if you changed your mind on posting that or posted some thing different.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

The fact that we've tried to put it in in a patch release is a pretty good indication that we'll be putting it in in some form again in the future :). This attempt used cookies, which didn't work well; the next attempt, whatever form it is, will need to use the database instead – so database changes will be needed, and therefore it has to be delayed until v4.
We'll remember what you said about the usability aspect :).

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

Ah that works even better then my idea.
Your doing good work and I am going to be downloading and installing ocPortal 3.2 some time this week.

You already have a better system then mkportal by far as that does not even have its own forum and the last time I used it or was on a site that used it the darn thing was so buggy with ipb 2.2 that the site died and by the time I talked them into getting ocPortal it was to late even though some did come back do to the bugs being gone but the owner did not like that we only had a few active members so it was closed. Kind of sad but it does show that your system is far better and less buggy then mkportal and yes it was the latest version of mkportal.

Your is better then sub dreamer as well, even though they have a lot of good looking skins the system is hard to use and does not have that many features and I have seen it mess up databases, my test site being one of them. It does some strange things to the IPB database making the removal of subdreamer very difficult but can be done, just have to remove all the junk they added to the IPB part of the database. I am glad yours does not add to the IPB database, well it does add profile fields but thats nothing and easy to take care of.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.
