Not as intuitive as it could be ...

Two-part observation:

PART ONE

  • Admin page is very helpful when showing that there are 'submissions' (News items) awaiting validation, although it is unnecessary because emails are sent to the administrator to remind him/her to attend to the submission.

  • However, there is no notification that 'Posts' are awaiting validation, as can be seen in attachment-1, although they DO show up when you go to the validation page (as shown in attachment-2), but one has to be a bit psychic to know that they are there, and it is mostly spam!

PART TWO

  • Once the validation page is reached you have to take care of the 'Post' entries, so one clicks on 'Edit' to be taken to a page where the post is displayed, but without an immediate "Delete" option.

  • So, one has to click 'Preview' (not intuitive) to take you to the preview page where there is still no "Delete" option, only a choice to 'Edit post' (hmmmm … one starts to wonder if this will display the post for viewing, even though it is currently showing unvalidated), so let's click that.

  • AH-HA! At last. Here's the page where one can "Delete" the post - and ALL the other bits of garbage that have accumulated since this was last checked!

I apologise for the long-winded attempt to explain myself, but the subsequent requests demand that I explained myself thoroughly:
  • Request 1: Is it possible to add an extra element to adminzone/pages/modules/admin_unvalidated.php to include validation for 'Posts'?
  • Request 2: Can lang/EN/global.ini (DESCRIPTION_EDIT) be amended to indicate that the user should continue with the 'Edit' process until he/she reaches the mass-delete page, without affecting other 'Editing' processes? (I am testing the second, but I don't have anything to edit just yet … !!)

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

I noticed you have to go though one by one you can not just validate them all.
OMGness I had 400 one day and that took a little over an hour.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

They're not shown by default because of the quantity of the things, but you can enable them via this OcCLE command:

Code

:set_value('show_post_validation','1');

Once the validation page is reached you have to take care of the 'Post' entries, so one clicks on 'Edit' to be taken to a page where the post is displayed, but without an immediate "Delete" option.

Very good point.

Can lang/EN/global.ini (DESCRIPTION_EDIT) be amended to indicate that the user should continue with the 'Edit' process until he/she reaches the mass-delete page, without affecting other 'Editing' processes? (I am testing the second, but I don't have anything to edit just yet … !!)

I think we'll make things simpler by adding a delete option to the screen.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks Chris.

I've OcCLE'd (I think I've just invented a word!) your suggestion. Now I have to wait until the garbage accumulates to confirm that it works, which I'm sure it does.

I also 'edited' my lang/EN/global.ini (DESCRIPTION_EDIT) and it shows up nicely when there are spam entries to edit but, of course, I don't need to be reminded of this any more!

A 'Delete' option would be terrific.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

We'll consider that also.

Honoured member

I never did allow members access to the CMS zone. I feel those features would be more appropriate for Moderators. However, giving a user access to add files into the Downloads system is a good idea, but I made my own Downloads system. :P

My custom Downloads area would require some form of staff contacting to add a submission, as there's no real way for a user to add to a Comcode page without zone access (expecially if they aren't experienced with HTML which is basically all the Comcode page contains).
