Fan in training

on the right track?

Hi all, I'm trying to get an idea of the minimum implementation which would run, then add all the niceties.
I'll be trying this:

sources/vehicles.php
  - model has add edit delete and set functions
cms/pages/modules/cms_vehicles.php - controller allows vehicles to be integrated with CMS screens, calls model functions based on params
site/pages/modules/vehicles.php - view renders the template for entry screen, browsing

The CodeBook appendix 1a seems to be the most helpful info: http://ocportal.com/docs9/codebook_1.htm

Anybody know of a better intro doc or any blog post about this?

Yep that's right :). The best way to really see how existing code does it is probably to examine the files of a specific bundled addon. All of ocPortal is defined as some part of an addon. The IOTD addon is a good one that does a fairly basic content-type, and if you look at sources/hooks/systems/addon_registry/iotds.php you'll see a list of all the files in it.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Ah, I just repeated what the codebook says in less detail, lol. Well, I'm being consistent at least.
