Stack trace errors trying to edit member profiles.

This is actually a bigger problem but shows up several places. I would like this to work but frustrated with experience so far. I did try your demo portal shortly first.

1) Here is where i first noticed trying to change password of admin after install. Same for any new member.

An error has occurred

Unfortunately a query has failed [SELECT author FROM ocp_authors WHERE (forum_handle=2) OR (forum_handle IS NULL AND author='admin') LIMIT 1] [Table 'ocportal853.ocp_authors' doesn't exist] (version: 9.0.24, PHP version: 5.4.45, URL: /site/index.php?page=members&type=view&id=admin&keep_forum_root=1)

Here is the stack trace:

Below is a stack trace revealing the state the software was in when the error occurred. If this represents a bug in the unmodified software, you may want to check ocPortal website for a fix, and if there isn't one, report this as a bug. Please note that merely posting a stack trace is not sufficient for us to solve your problem; the stack trace is just an aid that presents us with additional information. We still need to know the error message, what you tried to do, how you tried to do it, version numbers, and any other appropriate information.
We apologise for this problem and if it's a bug we hope you will work with us so that we can fix it for you promptlly

2) Also when trying to run updater I dont understand where the proper ftp path is and get this error.

annot write to sources/hooks/systems/meta/authors.php. File permissions for it (or the directory it is in) have not been set correctly. (version: 9.0.24, PHP version: 5.4.45, URL: /adminzone/index.php?page=admin_setupwizard&type=step10&keep_fatalistic=1)

You have turned on stack traces for all errors, via having keep_fatalistic=1 in the URL. This means that this may not actually be a fatal error, you have just asked for it to be presented as such (perhaps to help you find where it came from).

Sorry you're experiencing these issues, but unfortunately bugs are a part of any continuous development cycle. I am sure this will be patched now that it has been discovered.

Immediately after installing you may need to assign full recursive write permissions to whatever user IIS is running as. i.e. from the base folder down.

It looks like you don't have that by default, and it looks like authors has been removed from the database but the files are still there (due to insufficient file-system privileges to remove them). I just checked, and I can see ocp_authors is in our IIS installer by default, so it looks like it got mangled with this kind of partial uninstall.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
