No, I'm not being nosey. I'm just curious because I think one item potentially holding back adoption by US users, especially businesses, is the lack of an American English translation. As I recall, the other major CMS all have an American English translation.

Perhaps we could all chip in and work to do an American English translation on Launchpad. Unfortunately, I don't currently have the time to spearhead this effort and others probably have their own time constraints. But if we could at least identify who is from the US, it would be a help.

I'm in Las Vegas, NV. Where are you in the US?

Hmm, this would be a good showcase for ocUserMap and maybe also for the "clubs" feature.

A script I've used in the past to auto-generate a rough US pack. Not sure how usable it is, but if anyone here is a programmer they probably can get it running.

Thanks for the script, Chris.

Hopefully, someone with coding skills will be able to get it to work.

I think getting additional translations will be a plus for everyone.

Hmm…still hard to believe that there are only the two of us from the US? We Americans should do right and get a proper US English translation of ocPortal.

Let us know if you can help.

Well, I was hoping we might get some more volunteers to help with the translation but if your schedule allows you some time that would be great.

Or maybe you should finish your theme and then we might have more people to help and a pretty new theme added to the growing collection.

So, you don't sleep either?

It's great that there are new themes being created. I think this will address one of the primary weaknesses.

Hi Everyone,

I'm from Lewiston, Maine in the US. I thought I'd drop by and say Hi. I've tried ocPortal several times in the past. Actually I'm pretty fascinated with it. But each time I set it up I get discouraged and set it aside. So yesterday I downloaded the newest version and thought I'd give it another go. I hope I can get a handle on it this time.

Welcome aboard, again, David.

I am fairly new here and struggled a bit getting my head around ocPortal but I am very glad I did. ocPortal has allowed me to get a site up in relatively little time but, perhaps more importantly, provides a set of tools that will allow me to grow my site without having to reconsider my software choice.

Greetings,

I'm from and live in the US, Pascagoula MS to be exact. Though I have to say, I don't really understand the issue had with the current English translation used by the CMS lol. As my site members are global (Canada, Netherlands, etc) I don't think that the differences between say color and colour really play a large role.

That said, I do support your want to have3 aq US_EN translation. However at this point in time as much as I'd love to chip in and help, I cannot. I am just so behind in my own site work and have an over-full plate. Heck, I am supposed to put up another CEDI entry here, but still can't yet. :(

I am willing to bet that there are a lot more US people using this software than are posting here. 9 out of 10, most are like me, so busy ATM that they can't come in an post, or are so satisfied that they have no reason to come in and post.

I certainly understand and I think there is a very real chance that this won't even get started until after the first of the year and there is no telling what people's schedules might be then. This is simply an attempt to help identify those who might potentially help with the translation effort.

I personally don't mind British English but I have had a couple of comments about that  and the dates - perhaps its mere jingoism. BUt the truth is that the more translations available, the better it is for ocPortal. Now that the availability of alternate templates has been addressed, I think this may be the weakest area compared to other CMS offerings.

Please keep us in mind in case you do have some free time down the road.

Think one of the star wars films has an appropriate title for this   .

Good. If we continue identifying people from the US, we should be able to make short work of a US English translation of ocPortal.

I'm thinking we can attack it after the New Year when people's schedules settle down.

Understood, the more translations the better, and completely agree.

Should I be able to, I'd love to assist when the time comes. I already feel that I owe ocPortal so much after all. Using such an elaborate and powerful program for free and all. But do know, that I have to put work and maintenance of my own site above anything else that occupies my exceedingly rare free time…

*sighs* It seems the older I get the more "free time" becomes a myth.
