Hi,

I have a banner in the ocPortal system which works great, the banner sits in the top right and links to the page that I want it to link to. It links to a page that in turn has a reciprocal banner to my ocPortal powered website. The website on which this reciprocal link resides on keeps removing the banner saying that they cannot find the reciprocal link on my website via the URL I'm providing which is the start page of my welcome zone. The banner is on every page of my site so perhaps it is a computer system that checks and isn't checked visually/manually by an admin.

It is entirely possible that their checking system is at fault but I thought what if it is happening because ocPortal is made of panels and templates and modules etc, that in the URL field on the other website where I tell them where my link to them is located should infact be a link to the banner system. How does this sound to you and if you agree this might work what URL do you think I should put in their system. whereabouts in the ocPortal system?

Thanks!

Hmm, sounds like they are using some autodetection. Try editing ocPortal's BANNER_IMAGE.tpl template, change:

Code

{$FIND_SCRIPT*,banner}?source={SOURCE&*}&dest={DEST&*}&type=click{$KEEP*,0,1}
to:

Code

{URL*}

This will lose click tracking, because it now will be a direct URL.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

It was infact just an error on my part. I simply overlooked a compliance rule I was breaking with the reciprocal link that I was sure I wasn't breaking. Not certain, but I was breaking a rule so that's much more likely why I was getting my banner taken down on this other site as opposed to the ocportal system not working with an autodetect system in their system
