So when I'm typing out a webpage and I do a bold or a italic in the page wizard I see these characters:

The work around, for me, seems to be having to manually select the text and then choose the bold/italics/underlined options. Is there something wrong with my setup?

Hi,

I'm afraid I don't follow.

If you're not choosing the "bold/italics/underlined options" in your preferred workflow, what exactly are you doing? I can't think of more than one way you'd do it, unless you're talking about pasting it in from an external editor or manually typing Comcode.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Basically I'm using the hotkeys Ctrl+B, Ctrl+U, Ctrl+I. So as I'm typing out the Comcode page and I want make a piece of text bold…if I use Ctrl+B and start typing the text comes out bold. The problem arises when I am done typing in bold and I press Ctrl+B again to toggle off the bold effect. Upon doing so these characters appear: €<.

Interesting. I didn't know you could do that. It works fine for me on Mac, I will try quickly on Windows, but probably my answer will be an unhelpful either "blame ckeditor" or "this standard is not universal" ;).

Well, in Firefox Windows it works for me. In Chrome Windows nothing happens at all for me (you're running Chrome according to your log entries here). If there's a bug it'll be in ckeditor, or the browser – or it may be something else is listening on the complex keypresses, maybe using them as shortcuts for the particular characters you see.

Here's what I have found so far

1) I'm Chrome Version 22.0.1229.94 m
2) It's not an addon as I've tried without any addons
3) I'm using OCPortal 9.0.2

To replicate the bug you can use the Bold button or the Italics button or any combination thereof.

**EDIT**

I've updated ckeditor to the latest version, as far as I can tell there are no bugs reported for this kind of theme, could it be something in oCPortal? I've even started with a totally fresh install of ocPortal.

Don't you mean to workaround the bug? You said before it is the keypress that activates?

Does it happen right away, or after you preview/save?

I would not advise that. We make a few patches to ckeditor to make it integrate better with ocPortal.
