stop video upload but allow youtube embed

Heya sweeties,

I was wondering if there is a way to stop members from uploading videos to galleries 'but' at the same time allow them to embed video from sites like youtube.

I am for want of a better term 'skint', flat broke and cannot afford to pay for hosting so I am using a free hosting gaff which is pretty okay so far but I don't doubt for a moment that if I start of videos to their servers they will shut down my site in the blink of an eye. See, embedding them will enable members to 'feel' like they are uploading videos, giving them the sense of fulfilment they desire, whilst not stressing my server, a win-win scenario for me then.

Sure. Advise your users that they will no longer be able to 'upload' video's (force validation for vids), but that they can 'embed' YouTube vids by using a 'Custom Comcode' tag. Call the tag [youtube]...[/youtube] for the sake of simplicity, and you're good to go.

Here is the code I use to do exactly the same thing on my site, but bear in mind that I designed it (border colours 'n' such) for me. Small changes to the hex values will get you something close to your own display:

Code

<p align="center"><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/{content}&amp;hl=en_GB&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x2b405b&amp;color2=0x6b8ab6&amp;border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/{content}&amp;hl=en_GB&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x2b405b&amp;color2=0x6b8ab6&amp;border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object></p>

The actual build of the 'Custom Comcode' tag is accessed via  Admin Zone Setup Custom Comcode Add Custom Comcode tag, and this is the information I've inserted in my own 'tag'. Feel free to copy and use if you wish:

Hope that helps.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!
