Tried some of the posted solutions.

I seem to have a stable install except for a couple of glitches. I'll post each separately to keep everything neat.

I tried doing the upgrade in version 9, but my Master Password is not recognized. It works everywhere else except the upgrader. I tried changing it in the info.php file as the suggestions indicated, but no go!

When I enter the password and click Login the field just empties and then that's it.

Any more suggestions? I even remembered to login this time :)

If you re-open info.php, copy what's in the password field (even if it looks like gibberish), and paste it into upgrader.php, it should let you log in.

If the password was generated pre-v8 only though.

I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

So if you have $SITE_INFO['admin_password']='test';
 in info.php it would not let you login using "test" as the master password?

That's correct Chris! I changed it on the server, did a reload, checked to make sure it stayed & upgrader just rests.

The same pw works for my admin access & config-editor. But not upgrader.

If you open a bug report ticket with the upgrader URL and a password to try, I'll look at the network activity and see if I can spot something.

Thanks Chris! Unfortunately I'm mobile on BB right now so it may have to wait for now. Hopefully I'll be at it tomorrow & I'll follow your suggestion. If not I'll be on it first thing Monday morning. Hope that's not too much of a problem.

Hi,

I have resolved it. It looks like someone was messing with the sources/upgrade.php code. Was another programmer working on stuff?

Normal code:

Code

if ((array_key_exists('given_password',$_POST)))
{
   $given_password=post_param('given_password');

Debug code that someone had left in the file:

Code

if ((array_key_exists('given_password',$_GET)))
{
   $given_password=post_param('given_password');
   $given_password='password';

I can't remember any case where I or any developer working for me would have written something like that, but then we handle so many tickets and bug reports it's hard to remember every support incident and every bit of debug code that could have slipped through, so I can't be 100% sure. No other user has reported this issue though.

Regards,
Chris

That seems a little disconcerting since I know it wasn't me. Looks like tomorrow is pw renewal day for me.

My first thought was foul play, but if so it is very strange foul play. I think more likely would be if you had a ticket with your web host and they had some cause to experiment.

The change would not have granted access – it essentially fixated the inputted password to 'password', which would have only worked if info.php actually had that password.

Yet, if some hacker had write access they would have had no interest in that area of the code.

I had no ticket with my host. I did have install issues with their installer & they tried to see what was going on. But that was a few weeks back.

A couple of weeks ago they upgraded their installer for version 9, so I used that & let the installer create the databses, etc & had a reasonably stable install.

I was having admin zone access issues. But after uploading a TPL that was all lower case when it should have been named in upper, I cleared the cache & had admin zone access. if that makes any sense.

That's when I tried to upgrade & came up against his login issue.

That's pretty much it!

That could well be it. The developers making the installer could have accidentally left that debug code in there. Is this SimpleScripts?
