Some issues with user logins and importing

I have vBulletin 3.5.1 and I did an install of OCPortal 2.6.1 with integration of vBulletin as the Forum.

This has worked fairly well, but I wanted tighter integration. The Frame for vBulletin wasn't often big enough. I had trouble logging out of the Forums from outside OCPortal. Actually, I could not log out using vBulletin. I had to use OCPortal.
When I attempted to import the forum into OCPortal's default forum I got a slew of database errors letting me know it was not possible. It may be because I had already chosen vBulletin as my forum, but I'm unsure how to fix it. It could be that the Importer only lists 3.0.x and not 3.5.x.

v 2.6.1
From the Admin Centre I used the Import -> vBulletin 3.0.x -> Create New Session, and delete any old sessions

Base = /home/rpgdfw/www/www/rpg

Refresh time = 15

and selected the first database option "usergroups"

The following page shows up when I clicked the Import button.

I'd register if I knew this worked, but I've been burned too many times at this kind of thing with the hopes of the software working as long as I register. In fact, I went to purchase OCPortal, but your website reminded me of this when it said …
Notice: If you haven't already, we recommend evaluating ocPortal before continuing with registration. Our refund policy is based on user ability to evaluate the product.

Hi,

Don't worry, I agree with your decision - as long as we're just fixing problems here, we're happy to fully assist.

You're correct that this is a problem with vBulletin 3.5; I thought the import would work, but I didn't take into account that they seem to have changed the format of their config file. Please send a copy of the vBulletin config file (censored for passwords if you wish) to info@ocportal.com and I'll take a look and then offer a bug fix.

This is a little tricky for us as we don't actually have a copy of vBulletin 3.5-final ourselves, only an RC release.

Could I ask you to attach a database dump of the structure of your database (we don't need the actual data rows)? It looks like this part of the structure was changed since vBulletin 3 RC1.

Right, I've carefully looked through the difference between the structure in your database and the one in vBulletin 3, and I believe the only difference that mattered was that Jelsoft seemed to have renamed a couple of database fields after version 3 RC1.

I have attempted to update the importer to take this into account. It wasn't rocket science, but as I'm working blind I can't be completely sure it will work. I appreciate your patience :).

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Sorry about that, I missed out a letter (unfortunately my wireless keyboard has a habit of pulling stunts like that on me - so I blame the keyboard ;)).

This is a real bug in the importer, so I'm logging this into our bug database. A fixed file as normal is attached.

I have agreed to help finish his import, which I am still more than happy to do. This is likely to be in a few hours time as I'm currently in the middle of some version 3 optimisation. As I think this is on the very last thing that could be imported, it's likely there won't be any more errors - so if you'd like to try again, just keep me informed, otherwise I'll apply this fix myself and finish the import.
