I installed v9 alpha1 but can't log in to configure it.  I just keep getting a message saying the Guest are not allow to log in, and am presented with the log in form.  I've installed it, deleted that install and tried again, but the same thing happens.

Have you made a admin account in the installation process? If yes use that. If not install fresh.

All I can think is if there's something wrong with the cookie settings or some kind of related conflict.

I couldn't find any error messages in ocPortal with the words 'allow' and 'log' in though.

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Heck who knows.  I was trying to install it on to a sub domain, which I've done in the past, and have had no issues with.  However, I deleted the V9 and uploaded a copy of V8.1 and was experiencing the same issue.  I didn't think to look at the cookies, but now that you mention it that does sound like a very likely Colbert.  I finally just created a new account on my server using an old domain that I'm not using and it installed fine, I was able to log in, configure the system and now playing around with it.  I can say that so far I really like it, and haven't ran across any errors or issues. So far so good.
