I am glad to hear that v8 will have other uploader! The current one, in v7.1.* really makes a lot of problems, mostly because it is flash based.

On closing a bug http://ocportal.com/tracker/view.php?id=276 Chris wrote:
v8 will have a plupload addon that improves uploaders a lot.
Although generally we are limited by what the browser will let us do.

Could you please provide more information about new uploader?

Yes, I hate flash, I always hated it, but that's not the point. In the case of OCF it corrupts one of the main forum feature. Under Ubuntu 11.* and many other Linux distributions swfuploader doesn't work at all, the Upload button just disappear after clicking. So this is the reason why I would like to see it replaced with some other. For now simple uploader is the only (not bad) option.

One more question regarding fields in v8. Will different fields have options for adding different types of files?

Google plupload :). We basically integrated it on top of the swfupload UI. So it has HTML5 upload, Flash upload, various other providers too.

Not really. The internal file upload field API supports file types (and we're feeding that through in various cases, e.g. if a CSV is wanted, it only allows selection of a .csv; e.g. if an image is wanted,…). But this is not an option in the higher level catalogues-based fields API – except that the picture field type only allows pictures.

Hm…I'm afraid that I do not understand this. Please correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that the uploader will still depend on Flash itself.

As we can see in examples plupload supports almost all runtimes and it is possible to be used WITHOUT Flash, e.g. HTML5 or HTML4 only (http://www.plupload.com/example_all_runtimes.php)

Thank you.

What you see when you use swfupload in ocPortal is not Flash, it's Javascript. Flash controls only the button and the file selection dialogue. So when I say we use the swfupload UI, I mean the upload progress dialogue, and other little bits of the UI, not the file selection dialogue.

Chris,

Great to hear that! Really it is :)

I've bought these days approximately 20 domains (the same name but different country codes) and the main one, .com in English, is almost ready to be published.  Of course, ocPortal plays main role so I would not like visitors to experience problems with Flash.

More about my plans after I resolve some trademark issues with French domain registration.
