Thanks. It's "in your face", but in a a nice enough way!

Also, in case one is tempted to click the very inviting red "Launch Upgrader" button the

… (major upgrade, may break compatibility of customisations)

soon halts the itchy trigger finger.

In my case there has been far too much 'modding' of the display for me to tempt fate by upgrading just yet.

Perhaps, some time in the future …..

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Thanks for the advice Rick. You're absolutely right, of course. I wouldn't dare do the upgrade without actually taking a backup, but …

I think I'll revert to my old 'method' and do it all manually after first doing a file comparison check. That way, laborious as it is, I can at least minimize some of the 'damage'!

Good luck. I may stop doing it my way which is always reinstalling it.  :$

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

Fletch,

The only issues I've seen are a few CSS issues when upgrading. A few revisions back it was messing with the global.css but Chris fixed that. Now on the last upgrade the only things I needed to fix were my news.css changes. Another idea to go along with Ricks is to make a clone site and do your tests there.

Fletch, glad you mentioned that as I almost forgot. Now that OCP is free and you can have as many copies as you want, I now create a Test site on all of my domains that kind of mirrors the main site so that I cancheck any changes before committing them to the real site.

You could have as many installs as you wanted before. I always had about 3 or more.
You just had to leave the copyright stuff at the bottom and side.

Good point Ami, I think I got confused with IPB. I used to do that with IPB all the time until they went with the Pay for format.

Yep IPB does however allow 1 test install and one active install for every License.

Thanks for the encouragement and advice, peeps.

I have a test site, even paid for a new domain, and I will certainly be 'mirroring' my active site on there before taking the leap of faith.

However, reading an earlier post, it looks like 4.1 is on the horizon and I think I shall wait just a little while longer.

I'll be back to crow when things work out, never fear!

Take my advice. I'm not using it!
