ability to segregate content by user group

Hello Ocportal community,

I'm trying to build a personal website whereby I can share news, photos, video, etc with family and friends, as well as a "public" or "guest" side which would house blog entries and photos of things I don't mind the general public viewing.
I want people I know to able to create user accounts to access additional content hidden from the general public. I also want to know who is signing up for user accounts so I know they are legit and not spammers or other freaks.
Can I do this with Ocportal?
What I have read concerning users seems to deal with creating forums, and multiple user groups that all seem to be able to have at least read only access. I don't intend on that usage for this site. I don't want a guest user to be able to have read access to certain blog entries of galleries.
I have tried Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla, as well as a couple others my host has available in Cpanel, but I have not found anything that will allow me to do this without taking a year to learn the CMS....cough, Drupal, cough, cough...
What I have seen so far in Ocportal I like. I'm hoping I have finally found my solution, but I'm not finding a way to do what I need yet.

Thanks in advance.

Short answer. Yes.

Lay out your specific requirements for each scenario and somebody should pick it up and run with it so that you can get a feel for what areas you need to concentrate on.

My first recommendation for your 'certain blog entries of galleries' (confusing terminology as both 'blogs' and 'galleries' are features of ocPortal) is to look closely at the 'Permissions Tree Editor' in the Admin Zone/Security menu and carefully choose what is visible to your 'Guest/Visitors'.

Also, strongly recommend you use a new post for each 'problem' as some issues can be picked up by peeps that have some (advanced?) knowledge of the problems in question.

Finally, WELCOME, and enjoy this outstanding CMS.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Hi Neowalla this is really quite easy to do within ocPortal and something i've done quite a few times.

You can add links in the menu which only appear if someone has the permissions to access them so depending on who logs in they could see a completely different set of menu links.

I wrote this a while back too about settiing up a private members forum which might be helpful.Setup a Private Members Forum in ocPortal | Arvixe Blog

the process is very similar for creating a full zone which only a certain usergroup would see.

Welcome to the forums if you have any questions feel free to PM me or post on the forum there are a lot of really helpful people here

No. The admin for this forum can delete my account if they wish. I'm moving on to another cms.
