Well-settled

Somehow, someone with Member privileges who I didn't intend to be able to create a Forum has been able to do so. I'm still trying to figure out how they were able to do that.

I want to move the content (it should have been a Topic, not a forum), to a topic post but seem unable to figure this out. Can a Su to their name?

Thanks for any tips.

1.) You are admin right? Admin can move from any forum.

2.) Assuming you are admin, Is the info in the newly created forum all in one post? In multiple posts? Or just as a forum description?

3.) If in one pose, check box next to topic, go to forum tools, move topic, select desired forum.

4.) If in multiple posts, first merge each posts into one thread (if desired) then step 3.

5.) If forum info, then you will need to create the thread that is desired and put that info into that thread. If you desire the forum creator to have the credit you can tell him to do it or do it for him using Su.

6.) I would then go and take a look at that member's information and the permissions carefully. First check the standard permissions, all of them. If you still can't find the option giving the member that right, check the permissions tree, but be forwarned, it is massive.

Best of luck to you. I am not sure how this happened to you.

Hi and thank you. I have unchecked permission to allow user to create high visibility content, which I think was what did this. No biggie as I will move it where it belongs. I was just surprised a user had that capability, also it appears to create a sub-membership group!

How do I enter the Su mode for this user? It appears I do not have su enabled as it's not evident. I will look to see if I have this turned off somehow. Thanks again for your advice.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks. I had not correctly set permissions in Permission Tree editor. Now this is fixed and ok. Sometimes I over look some of the simplest things.

Thanks again for a great product.
