I am in the process of installing OCP 9.02, and I am having two specific problems. When trying to create new galleries, forums, and so on, the loading icon  runs continuously without ever completing its function. In other words, it never loads the tree of relevant parents.

Secondly, when I try to add banners, or modify themes, it reports that 'Admin is not a recognized user' or words to that effect, and will not continue.

Thanks in advance

How did you install?

If you open a support ticket with FTP (e.g.) access, I can take a look.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I originally installed it using the ftp installer here, when I encountered problems, I tried downloading and manually extracting. I have installed earlier versions (8.xx) and have them working, and would have stuck with the working version, but I like some of the upgrades (like being able to post code instead of link and image in banners..)

I'll open a ticket when I get to the office, thanks.

Here's a screencast to show how to debug problems with the tree widget:
2012-11-06_1213 - ocProducts's library

If it's not loading, you'll probably see an error in there and pasting it here would possibly help me see what is wrong.

For the username problem, I noticed you put "Admin" rather than "admin". There is an "Owner" field on the banner form that would contain "admin" if you are logged in as admin. I wonder if you are running something like Google Translate and it's mangling the input fields somehow.

When trying to add a banner I first get this:

<!-- Hosting24 Analytics Code -->

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://stats.hosting24.com/count.php"></script>

<!-- End Of Analytics Code -->

Then this:

Please check back over the form - you did not fill in all fields on the form correctly

which leads me to this:
The username of the member who controls this entry (usually the original submitter). ‘Guest’ implies that nobody controls the entry.

I have tried creating other user accounts with the same results. In spite of what it says "Guest" returns the same result.
I don't have google translate installed.

This all I get when I try to add galleries, forums, downloads or in this case addons, it never progresses beyond this point:

Source
Source
//
If you want to upload a file from your computer.
//
Loading…
//

If there are additional categories available underneath a category then there will be a clickable ‘plus’ icon shown to the left of it. Choose your selection by clicking. Hold the ctrl key to expand all child categories also.

Actually that will be the AJAX username check failing too. I really need to see what is happening on those AJAX checks like I demonstrated, that is where the error message will be.

Turning this option off in Accessibility helped the cured the endless 'loading' problem. Appreciate the clue.
:)

Tree lists
If you want to have Javascript/AJAX-powered category selection lists. This is more user-friendly to sighted users who are adding content and essential if you have hundreds of categories, however is not so easy to understand with a screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

I made a video for you above (2012-11-06_1213 - ocProducts's library) that says exactly what you can do to find an error message to report. You don't need to turn anything off.
