I am trying to upload a zipfile onto the downloads section of my site and I keep getting confronted with a 'really annoying' error telling me this:

Shell-based Unzip functionality not possible due to security restrictions.

I'm not asking for it to be unzipped, I am trying to upload a zipfile ready for download, any one got any ideas what's going on here, my site keeps throwing up errors and I'm getting really fed-up with them.

Ah, sorry about that. This is a small bug that your hosting environment triggers. Most hosts can unzip files through PHP, and when they can't, we try an alternate method, which also fails in your case. However we don't need to unzip the file (it's happening because ocPortal indexes download contents for searching), so we really don't need to fail on this. Attached will turn off the search indexing (we'll fix the bug in v8)…

As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

No problem :). Just don't let the bugs drive you crazy  . The problem with a huge system like ocPortal is that everyone uses it in a different way - different feature combinations, different servers, and their own usage habits, so everyone tends to find a few. We fix them though ;).

Oh I don't mind bugs, I'm more than happy to report them to be honest, I just end wondering if it's me being totally stupid and then of course I start doubting my own abilities and it's all down hill from there. I'll make sure I don't let it grind me too much. :)

Stupid is working with your legs crossed, looking down, and worrying your foot is dislocated due to the angle it is at. I did that yesterday.

And there I was, with cursor poised over the 'report' button, ….. then I read the rest of it!

 :o

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

One of the great joys in using ocPortal is the speed with which Chris attacks the reported issues. And, in those cases where he has difficulty reproducing the issue, he doesn't mind some persistence in reporting, as he always wants to get tthe bugs out of the system.

Ha-ha, you just reminded me of when I got up from my pc a week or so ago and was too busy watching this huge house brown spider racing across the floor when I tripped over my own feet and hit my face slap bang on the floor, I looked around all panicked trying to see where the spider was when I noticed what looked like my foot snapped off and all twisted the wrong way. Took me a little while to realise my trainer had fallen off as i fell, i felt like such a dizzy brain. :)
