Hi all, been about an eon since I've been around but been happily using ocPortal in the meantime ...that is until I decided to upgraded one of my sites to 8.1.7 and found out that I need to apply 2 hot fixes. I downloaded them and they are .tars of course but I have forgotten how to apply them to get rid of the little bugs - anyone to share the process please? Thanks. :$

Well-settled

You need to upload the .tar files to your OCP root directory and extract the contents, over-writing the files that are there. In my case, I have to manually re-zip them prior to uploading since my host does not support .tar extractions directly in their control panel.

This is as good a place as any for me to quickly mention…

The v8 line is still being maintained, and there's expected to be another patch release.

A number of members have talked about the challenge of the v9 upgrade, but I want to stress we are not making people make it yet. ocPortal.com is still running v8 as we're likely to jump v9 and go straight to v10 when we next do a natural iteration of our ocPortal.com theme – I'd expect other users to make a similar determination, doing the jump at the same time as going into a natural site redesign cycle.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks Chris that's good to know. I don't mind doing a re-do to the theme but want to do the re-do as few time as I can as a result of software upgrades - I appreciate that the upgrades will be superior and worth it in the end but it is the middle I am trying to hold up now and I'm not doing any great job of that!

I am thinking that waiting to v10.x will work fine for me. Thanks again Chris, still loving ocPortal :thumbs:
