Having just upgraded the The Fascinating World of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Creatures of all Kinds - Prehistorics Illustrated Dinosaurs I was anxious to open it back up and see how it went. I did the upgrade without the theme update (I'll do that by hand later) so it looks right so far

…then ka-zowie owie owie owie owie owie owie owie owie owie owie owie owie owie owie owie owie…

I had my sound turned up and a million of IM invitations blasted my ears and flooded the screen …OK, so it wasn't a million, 562 to be exact. Still that's a lot!

How do I get rid of them? is there an expedient method of deleting them all at once or do I (as I started) have to attend to them one at a time?

Interesting. Try clearing the chat_events table out.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I'm not sure if I know what the CHAT_EVENTS TABLE (unless you mean an actual MYSQL table) is but I emptied the chat messages from the chatroom - no difference.

If you don't mind about losing any chat room configuration, try emptying chat_rooms too (you'll need to recreate General Chat, or whatever rooms you have).

If you do mind, a more specific query should work:

Code

DELETE FROM <tableprefix>chat_rooms WHERE is_im=1;
(replace <tableprefix> as required)

I went into the database and deleted CHAT_ROOMS entries except for the GENERAL chatroom, cleared the caches and it worked. Thanks Chris.

I think I found that topic you referenced View topic: [FIXED] Chat error - ocPortal and replaced the "CHAT_LOBBY_IM_AREA" template. checked my site and even after clearing the caches - not fixed. However, now I was able to perform what looked like a removal procedure to the IM. As soon as I went to another page the deleted IM's were back again.

I looked for the reference "broken" line in the LANGUAGE files and brought the 2 lines up on the same line. No difference at all. Still could not permanently delete the IM's.

Upgraded the 7.1.1 version to 7.1.2 and have seen no fix occurring with my problem with the latest 3 IM invitations. Problem remains.

We like how your site has come along :).

When registering I noticed that it is better if you change the background-color on this selector:

Code

.filledin .dottedborder_barrier_a_required, .filledin .dottedborder_barrier_a_required .lightborder, .filledin .dottedborder_barrier_b_required
to #888.

I'm a little lost. Went on your site, started an IM with you (I think you are "t-bone"), and closed it okay.
Maybe it is some specific IM chats on your account? If you make me an admin I can SU into your account and test from there.

I think this will fix it.

Since a bug fix in 7.1.1, ocPortal didn't distinguish between having access to a chat room and being a member of an IM conversation (as actually an IM conversation is implemented as a specialised chat room). As admins had access to all rooms, even if they left a conversation ocPortal still brought it up as the other person had not left and they still in some sense had access. I think it also only happened when there was a third-party involved, as otherwise ocPortal would automatically delete the room if only one person was in it.
