Upgrader.php does not seem to work after step3

Upgrading ver.5.0.3 to 6 beta2
After step3 it stays for 5 minutes at loading…ocPortal upgrader followed by a blank page with "done" at bottom left.

After verification back with upgrader.php it is clear that nothing was upgraded
ftp to server indicates no files have changed
ftp'ed tar file 5.0.3-6 beta2.tar to server makes no difference in time and result
updating server's upgrader.php with latest copy does not help
changing htaccess with known working copy of a 6 beta2 upgraded site does nothing

I was hoping not to have to expand the tar file manually to complete this upgrade by possibly finding the cause or solution here, thanks!;)

Greetings,

I didn;t have any such issues on my end. I wonder, could it be something to do with your ftp settings? Maybe it was waiting for an FTP password or couldn't access your root folder through ftp?

Thanks mythus I checked with my config editor and found nothing amiss.

I just received the following email, which seems to explain the problem:
************************************************************

Jean,

This is a notice that we have suspended the account "planarub" due to excessive cpu usage:

100% CPU usage: lsphp5:/*********/upgrader.php

The file above was using 100% of the CPU and causing the server load to spike high, and slow down the server, forcing us to suspend the account immediately. Please contact us ASAP to resolve this situation.

Best Regards,

eLief.com Management

Furthermore, my site is now branded with "This Account Has Been Suspended" in BIG letters as if I would be a criminal for everyone to know.

I find elief's behavior a bit drastic and undeserved.:ninja:

Edit: I have received an immediate reply to my service ticket to Elief with the un-blocking of my account, as they are also perplexed with the sudden malfunction of my upgrader.php

Most hosts tend to do that. Maybe one day a host with have confetti animations and maybe the "Account Suspended" will blink or change colors. I'd rather it look like it's a party if anything.    O_o  :o

We changed every PHP file in v6, and it seems the upgrader can't cope efficiently with that. I'm working on a fix now.

Thank you Chris!
After installing v6 beta1 and 2 in a breeze last week and using it to prepare new classroom documents and CEDI for my incoming classes, I couldn't wait to take advantage of all the neat features on my main classroom site after successfull upgrades on a few test sites from 5.0.3 to 5.1 beta then to 6 beta 1 and 2. But, my main site is a lot heavier and older than those test sites and I can see the server complaining at the extra load.:$

LOL Eric, I wish Elief would use a message that fits the "crime". I was told by  Richard Rowan that they would work on it "The suspension page is cPanel's default suspension page, so I'll look into having our designer maybe come up with something that is a little more appropriate."

Thanks, FYI the fix is just to upgrade the TAR to the server manually. Unfortunately the v5 upgrader has a loop inside a loop, and as there are so many files this time it leads to much too much looping.

There was one I saw a year back or so that had their account suspended (was one of my bookmarks) and the text was a little less bold and huge. If memory serves me correct, the title bar said 'Account Suspended' and the page itself was around 14pt size, left aligned and said:

"HOSTNAME has temporarily closed this site. If you are the account holder of this site, please contact HOSTNAME EMAIL. Thank you for your patience and we hope to be back up shortly!"

I'm guessing they did what you wanted to do. Have a custom suspension page set up.
