Hello, i have yet another question and this time it's about e-commerce features.

To put it simply, i want a user to be able to upload a privet file (that only admins can access and see: For editing). Once the file had been edited, i want the admin to be able to sell it back to the same user, example "Pay here to access download". Is there any system currently in place in OcPortal that might support this?

I have looked through the ecommerce and so far i have found no simple way of doing this. Products might work, but i need only single users to access each file as each one is client specific. Dose anyone have insight or thoughts on a efficient method of creating this system in OcPortal?

The support ticket sysem might work as well… but the fact its a support ticket system and not a product system makes it unideal.

Thanks.

You need/you'll need to be, a programmer for something very specific like this.

Become a fan of ocPortal on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Twitter.
Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

There's to much to OcPortal for me to learn every little trick it has, so its easier for me to ask and get a definitive answer then wonder about it for a weeks.

On an unrelated note i have two other questions, one might be a bug.

The first is there a way to edit the AdminZone main menu bar, remove entire category's like Style, etc. One of my permission groups can't see any links under style but the buttons still there for example. Require template editing or is there some hidden menu edit for it?

The second question is a big… support tickets. When i filter the list the window expands with large scrollbars (there are side menus on the page), but you can't scroll the support ticket window, it seems to be stuck in the top left perpetually… when you scroll it immodestly rubber bands back.

First of all i don't know why its making scroll bars at all after filtering and not scaling the page to fit the page like it dose by default when first viewing support tickets. Why it's then locking the page to the top left ignoring any scroll attempts to view the hidden content is beyond me.

FYI, your question is similar to this tracker request (which I've just added a time estimation for)…

0000263: Purchase to Download - attach downloadable files that must be purchased before downloading - ocPortal feature tracker

However yours introduces the selling back concept. I presume there is some privacy issue here, that not just anybody can buy the downloads, it specifically has to be the original owner.

Yes. Though if that functionality can be applied to the support ticket section that maintains privacy.

Well, you can just make an OCF multi moderation that says something like "Send your money to <here>", use that as necessary (needs to be done from the support tickets forum as opposed to from the tickets module), and then you can manually attach a file back when you've received it.
Quick and dirty but possibly workable.

Fix to your menus issue. Could you post different things in separate topics in the future please though.

Thanks for the fix's. BTW retuning to the original topic… I need to discuss with my team the specifics of what we want/need for this system and may seek a feature addition depending on the conclusions we draw.

Ok, please post a support ticket if/when you'd like to proceed with some custom development, you'll get a professional response regarding quotes/timescales etc.
