I had an idea for which I might use the new catalogue functions whereby I believe you are supposed to be able to link from one catalogues fields to another?

I was thinking I could make a catalogue of Rewards (like badges etc) this catalogue would have the name of the reward and a picture etc. Now in the second catalogue I would list users and their rewards. Would this work fine with the way the new catalogues work or do you foresee issues?

Also has the new changes to Catalogues been finalized and released?

Sorry I have been away for a few weeks and am a little behind and am now just setting up a new site and have found I have forgotten 90% of everything I learned about ocPortal before my absence. Probably a product of growing old and a misguided youth! lol

Backreferences or many-to-many relationships would be tricky.

So you can say the reward was assigned to Tom, but not the reward was assigned to Tom, Dick and Harry, And you can't to automatically find what awards Tom has found (although you can do some fairly complex template changes to extract these back-references).

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.

No. There is a test release out, but they will now be in v8 for which there is no release schedule. Essentially v8 will be released when a time window to release it becomes available.
Until then, lots of cool (unannounced) stuff is being added, it'll be a great release.

Thanks for the quick reply. Ok so maybe I will take my time with trying to implement that one that way then. I'll find less dangerous paths for site enhancement first. lol

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

lol, nice. Anyone who wants to spy on it can look at the github commit history. There's lots of incomprehensible stuff about little bugfixes etc, but there's some info buried in there too.

And there are some other great features in the tracker just waiting for sponsorship. If I win the lottery, I'll be keeping you busy for quite some time.  lol
