Hi SoccerDad.

I have a twitter box at the top of my forum, just under the member area.

Take a look and let me know if that is what you have in mind. I'll be glad to help you with that.

Regards,
Doc

Hey Doc! Thanks for the tip. What I'm actually after solving is the tweeting of my blog posts. I have followed the guidelines outlined (added creds to configuration, guest accessible and validated posts) however nothing is ever posted to twitter and no errors appear in the logs….

Hi,

I did that on another site, but I can't remember exactly how. You want the retweets to appear on twitter, right?

This is a real shame, but Twitter has turned off the functionality that allowed the integration to work, so it is dead in the water. To reimplement with 'oauth' would be a big job, add thousands of lines of code to the codebase, require making people jump through additional hoops, and only be compatible with PHP 5.1, so it's not something to consider for a patch release. To be honest, I am very tempted to just say now that RSS is the best standard so to look for a good tool to link RSS feeds into your Twitter account – it's probably the best strategy.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thanks for the update Chris, appreciated.

Psydoc, you've already helped me here! *grin*, peaking at your site I noticed the Wibiya toolbar at the bottom which pretty much does what I need. Thanks for your input!

Your welcome, SoccerDad. I'm still having a few issues with the Wibiya toolbar. There is a setting that helps if it interferes with the functionality of your script, but that has not ended all the difficulties.

Hi Chris,

I did not know twitter had turned off the retweet function. That is a shame.

I will probably be getting a call from the client on whose site I did the install.
