Tyro trying to get something setup in a hurry by saving the demo!I'm definitely a After more years trying to do this than most of you have been alive, I think THIS product is it. It has an air of sensibility about it - an understanding that just mebbe some people want to do something more serious than an ego-wanking blog. BUT it's complex.... of course. SO - what I would like is to move the actual demo Site I've been playing with from OCPortal to my latest renta-site and have a duplicate copy to work with on my PC. WITH a deliberate plan to move the whole thing to a serious Cloud-VPS when it is really usable and ready for some promo. I am in a bit of a hurry because I have a time-sensitive project to launch and won't have the luxury of a lot of time trying to learn yet another program, but REALLY want to not use WPress ...... (which I find difficult enough) So, any advice/hint no matter how trivial it may seem is more than welcome. T.I.A. |

I think you can export themes from the demo sites as that's a standard ocPortal feature, but otherwise you'd need to recreate via copy&paste, as no export system has been written for it – the demo system was only designed for experimentation not prototyping. If I answered something that you think should be in the documentation, please take the initiative and add it to the community documentation. We really need people to help out here and build a well-organised large support resource. |

Well it was worth a try…. I was hoping it was in the "zones" concept that I might be able to copy/forward the whole thing. I'll start again on my PC and test out the reality of whether this program is at least as easy to install and work with as WPress. (Don't think it is on the autoinstall list for CPanel *yet* ???) |

Thanks for the advice, but until it gets a LOT easier to do, I think I'll bite the bullet and just install a new package. Must look into the concept of "Zones" further, though. I do want to offer members the option of running their own Area when the interest in it is great enough. (Don't want them running off to set up a WPress site on their own!) If anyone is interested, I am actually an Industrial Psychologist ( a speciality I invented many decades ago 'cause I hated negative people in those days, being very young myself) and thus became a social-aetiologist, which made me quite well-off, till the world financial culling of '74 and a subsequent stroke…). I do have a short paper (somewhere) written in, strangely, 1972, in which I posed the coming dilemma of the information explosion and its ramifications, which focused on DILUTION. Blogging (an apt word if ever) and then WPress were unimaginable then, except for my friend Arthur C. Clarke and I in Ceylon. He was right and I was wrong….. it does happen :-) Thanks again, people, but ideas and writing are about the only contribution left to me, as I become technophobic due to the pace of advances. |
