Whoa, this is a doozy!

Hi all,
I tried to install News from the Add-ons and it failed the install.  No worries I thought, I'll figure that out later, however...  Now the site is totally dead and returns an error at the login screen;

An error has occurred

A language file for language EN is missing: news (lang/EN/news.ini or an overridden equivalent to this path) (version: 8.1.1, PHP version: 5.3.13, URL: /cubeuser/index.php?page=login&=)

Here is the stack trace:

The staff have been provided a ‘stack trace’ which may help them diagnose the problem.

You can see it for yourself at http://theselfcube.com/cubeuser/ .  I can't even log in to restore anything.  Everything was rockin nicely before that.

Any ideas?:'(
Thanks,
Maurice

Do you know what error happened when installing?

Extracting imports/mods/news.tar manually (you'll find it on the server) should fix it all.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Do you think importing them manually will fix this?  If so, how would I go about install the news.tar?

When I tried to install the New from Add-Ons, it returned this error along with a bunch of other code I did not copy...

PHP NOTICE [8] Array to string conversion in sources/lang.php on line 923 (version: 8.1.1, PHP version: 5.3.13, URL: /cubeuser/adminzone/index.php?page=admin_addons&type=addon_install&file=news.tar)

Thanks,
Maurice

Just extract the contents of the TAR to your computer using something like 7-zip, then upload the extracted files.

Did you take a look to see if the file is missing?

If you don't know where it is located, you can do a server search using most popular FTP programs.

It should be in the ocp/lang/EN directory.

My bad, it's in news_shared.tar. Maybe this was the problem, it let you install news without news_shared.

You can use that file from the same version you are using.
