Tooltip description box does not extend far enough to the right

I notice in 5.01 that the description boxes are different than 4.3.2 and I think I like it - at least much of it but I have run into a problem.

First was that my text color is light and the default background on the description box is whitish which washes out the text. I was able to find the CSS code that changes the color of the tooltip description box and I found the box width in the GALLERIES.CSS coding

Code

.gallery_tooltip_description { float: left; margin-right: 10px; max-width: 100px;
I changed the width and margin a few times but discover that the actual description box width is not governened by this - just the description info width and the right margin.

You can see this if you mouseover any thumbnail the red bordered box extends into the table to the right of the description. The table must have a transparent background.

I need to have the red bordered box completely extent to the right more to enclose the table info. I have not been able to track down where the code source is for this - anyone know?

Hi friendly,

Looking at it with firebug, I can see a col width="50" which should be at least "80" to work as you wish, but I cannot pinpoint it to anything in the galleries.css. It is there somehow…try adding a col width: 80px; to
.gallery_regular_thumb a img { or change the margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; to 0, as auto will cut your width of 100 to 50 I believe. Just a thought for a look out point. Hope it can help.

The 50 is the first column in the table to the right side and the 2nd column is 145 I believe. The box with the red border seems to be independent of the stat table.

Tried the margin change and could not detect any change to the tooltip description box or table.

I believe also that the ".gallery_regular_thumb a img" affects the thumbnail and not the tooltip or the table - I could be wrong… still unresolved

With firebug, change the col width="50" to "80" and you will see that it solves the problem. Now, if you can adjust the width of this first col or if this gives you a clue to find where you can do this, it would be great.

Thanks! I was been able to play with the 50 number - your right if I make it 80 it works. I have found other combinations using the tooltip width and the col number to do the same. Now my question is where to find the code source for the 50 number. I am not able to figure that one out yet. Any clue?

Sorry to butt-in, guys, but my best-guess would be GALLERY_IMAGE.tpl, line 9.

Try it: nothing to lose. If it isn't the right one, then I'm afraid you'll need to be looking at one of the JS files, and THAT is way above my pay grade!

Now there is one more thing - I want to increase the amount of text that shows up in the box and I figure there is probably a text length limiting factor somewhere for the Tooltip description box - again I need enlightenment from the enlightened...

Another wild guess …

galleries.css - .gallery_tooltip_description gives a max-width of 100px.

Does increasing that do anything for you?

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Fletch, through playing with that max-width figure I have found that it controls the description container's width that the text is displayed in but wont lengthen it.

I'm guessing it is in one of the templates.

Darn!

Will continue looking - unless you come up with something before that. Don't forget to post here if you do. I suspect others may be grateful for the 'knowledge'.

What does changing the '100' on line 4 of GALLERY_IMAGE.tpl do for you? The bit that says …
   {$TRUNCATE_LEFT,{DESCRIPTION},100,0,1}

Sorry to be so vague with these comments, but I haven't got something similar to work with, so it has to be a 'best-guess' scenario from me.

Take my advice. I'm not using it!

Hey, I'm back on this again.

I want to widen the description text in the description box which gives by default the allowable width of 50% to a wider percent like 80% but I cannot find the source of the limiting code.

Anyone remember or know where to find this?

Have a look at .gallery_tooltip_description in galleries.css. Adding an arbitrary height property in there should increase the height parameters to whatever you feel it should be.

I know I can get a visual of the increase in height of your 'description' box by fiddling with the css in Firebug. I'm not sure that 'auto' will work, but it may be worth a try.

Does it work for you?

Edit: Re-read your post after inserting my spurious response and realise that you want to WIDEN the space. Same place to edit. Currently it appears to be set to 245px. You can widen that to whatever you wish …

Thanks Fletch although I don't really need to make the box taller your post did catch my attention, LOL.

As sometimes happen I am my best sabateour. :ninja:

The Source for the 50% is actualy the code I had inserted to style the copyright declaration text for the media description in ADD/EDIT IMAGE.

"<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="height: auto; margin: 15px auto; width: 50%;">
<div class="standardbox_wrap">
<div style="color: rgb(102, 153, 153); font-size: 8pt; padding: 10px;">
Copyright 2011 D. L. Friend<br />
Any reproduction without permission<br />
is strictly prohibited. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>"

So now I know where the 'source' is to be found! :$
