Hi

I setup everything in the configuration and enabled the points but the users are not getting credit 10 points for each message they posted in the forums.

There are a few possibilities:

1) Are the messages being posted in a forum where post counts are enabled? In ocPortal it's possible to create forums (for spam, testing, etc) where posts don't count to the post count.

2) ocPortal won't give gift points for the posts so they won't be individually logged. The point number will go up, but that's all.

  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I checked the forum confiuration and the individual forum and I do not see anything that allows you to give post count enable in it.

If your refering to this then this is enabled but the users are not getting credit in points for the message they are posting in the general discussions.

Increment post counts
Whether to increase the recorded number of posts a member has if they post in this forum. Enable this if you would like members to be awarded for posting here (as post count leads to points).

I am confused.  I checked all the configuration settings including the individual forum where the message is being posted and the option Increment post counts is enabled.  What I am trying to do is when the individual post 10 messages in the forum they will access the live chat for 24 hours, so the more points they earn they would get more options available to them on my site.

Sorry, but I'm not going to pay the bandwidth costs to download 47.5MB unnecessarily. A screenshot should be about about 1/400th of that size.

Chris

I used the screen shot program that you recommended the file is only 1.4 mb and I am getting this when I try and upload the file.

You tried to upload a file which was larger than the maximum allowed size (16,777,216 bytes)

( You've found a bug in the upload system. The error message should have said you'd exceeded your daily upload quota. This will be fixed in the next patch release. )

Unfortunately you didn't record the points profile view page of a member, you recorded the member profile edit page of a member. If you aren't aware of the points profile view page, then I think the problem you're getting isn't that points aren't being assigned, but rather that you're not looking at the right numbers. Where are you seeing a members point count?

Hi,

For some reason test seems to have a negative post count. That is probably a minor bug in ocPortal, where posts are made without a post count, then when those posts were deleted, it was assumed that they had counted to the post count. I may have found and fixed that now, but it is a minor problem, because it only happens when posts are deleted.

I looked and saw there were other users on the site that did have a positive post count, and if you look at their point profiles, they are indeed earning points from them.

Under the user test I posted the message in the general forum then verified that the message was in fact that is was posted.  How ever its not giving the users proper credits for the post and I confirmed this from the user edit and profiles.

Thanks

If a user has an incorrect post count, then the points would also be incorrect. It looks like this has happened. However, also if you delete posts, the post count goes down, and hence the point count goes down too.

So there are too issues here:
  1. There is some kind of small bug that means the post counts aren't being maintained quite directly when posts are getting deleted. This is trivial though, because only a very small number of posts would ever get deleted.
  2. But still, when posts are deleted the post count really does go down, and this affects the point count.

You can recalculate post counts in the ocPortal Cleanup Tools (under 'Tools' in the Admin Zone).

If I use the clean tool in tools that will update the individuals points.  How can I increase the group for 24 hours from Registered User to Paid User please?

Thanks

Again, I'm afraid I am not able to understand what you're trying to ask – in particular 'the group for 24 hours'.
