The comment topic title shows up in Forum with #images_xxx reference

(This may seem a bit similar to a comment made in an earlier post)

When an comment entry is added to a comment box on a VIEW IMAGE page the comment author adds a subject title and when the comment is displayed in the FORUM on the particular post - the comment topic title shows up as intended but the PAGE TITLE with the topic title shows up something like this:

"Topic: View image "(#images_588)"

It seems ambiguous at best. To replace the (#images_588) with a proper name, I'm not sure from where one would derive the 'name' for the page. You might have to add an PAGE TITLE line for the page author to fill in. but in any case right now, it becomes an indescriptive title to be used in a forum where there may be so many entries originating from sources like, (#images_423) and (#images_882) and (#images_986) and… well anyway it is confusing - because the reader doesn't have the image or page content to reference from or view.

I know there is a 'SPACER POST created, in my case when the comment is made, saying: "This is a spacer post for a website comment topic. The content this topic relates to: View image"

Maybe in addition or in place of the VIEW IMAGE link there could be shown the thumbnail of the image subject in the spacer post? The image could be the clickable link.

I'm sure this is not a quick fix but a subject for a latter release (?)

I'm bumping this topic

…as there was no response several months back when I first posted it. I have recently added a side block for those comments made on the VIEW IMAGE pages and it brought this irritation back to mind…

I think this was resolved in version 5.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
