I am having to rebuild my website as Elief.com has just flopped out at keeping my old website online and available. It was so nice to use ocPortal for many years without any major incident but turns out the most dangerous part of it all was the host! I have a new host Arvixe.com now and they seem to be solid.

Anyway, I am slogging through all the ordinary setup and design reworks of the site and I was trying to add another comcode page using the Quotes page but calling it something different. I did not change the Quotes page but saved it as another page with a different name.

When I went to the site page where the block for quotes usually appears, I got the error message and stack trace.

I am sure it is a simple thing but I need some advice here... Thanks in advance.

An error has occurred

The directory cannot be found (version: 9.0.16, PHP version: 5.2.17, URL: /site/index.php?page=start&keep_fatalistic=1)

You have turned on stack traces for all errors, via having keep_fatalistic=1 in the URL. This means that this may not actually be a fatal error, you have just asked for it to be presented as such (perhaps to help you find where it came from).

Here is the stack trace:

Below is a stack trace revealing the state the software was in when the error occurred. If this represents a bug in the unmodified software, you may want to check ocPortal website for a fix, and if there isn't one, report this as a bug. Please note that merely posting a stack trace is not sufficient for us to solve your problem; the stack trace is just an aid that presents us with additional information. We still need to know the error message, what you tried to do, how you tried to do it, version numbers, and any other appropriate information.
We apologise for this problem and if it's a bug we hope you will work with us so that we can fix it for you promptly.

I must say, it's a lot quieter around here than I remember!

Was my stack trace helpful to anyone, do you get any clues as to how to fix my issue? Thanks in advance!

If you remove &keep_fatalistic=1 from the url, are you still experiencing an error? Or is that a stupid question? From memory I think your 2nd quotes file needs to be put in data_custom/ folder unless you just edited the original file from the admin zone.

I removed the '&keep_fatalistic=1' out of the header and got this message:

An error has occurred
The requested page (star) is missing.
Were you looking for start?

It then gives me a site map layout…

When I click on 'start' at the end of the question - it reroutes me back to the fatalistic error notice and the same Stack Trace…

Hi,

Sorry for the delay replying.

Okay, this is kind of a bug, in that the error message is totally unhelpful and misleading. But actually I think it just can't find your file.

Let's say you're using a block like [block="foo"]main_quotes[/block], you'd need a data_custom/EN/foo.txt file.

We'll fix the error message, and make the main_quotes field descriptions better.

I am lost, I think… I'm not sure where or what to be looking for and what to do once I find it. Sorry  :'(

Hi :) Assuming you have created a text file containing quotes (rather than the editing the default quotes file via the admin zone), you need to place that quotes file (ie, new_quotes.txt) in the data_custom/EN/ folder using ftp or your hosting control panel.

Then, to be able to display the file, you need to add

Code

[block="new_quotes"]main_quotes[/block]
assuming new_quotes is the name of your text file, into the page and area of the website you want the quotes to display.

If you want the block to have a title, you will need something like

Code

[block param="new_quotes" title="New Quotes" failsafe="1" cache="0"]main_quotes[/block]

I guess the solution was as easy as putting a text file in the text_custom/EN folder.  Problem solved and I will now continue on my way. Thank you Chris and KingBast for your help.
