How do I add a tag cloud block to the left or right panels?
I would like to allow users to be able to navigate via tags.

I thought this could be done but am unsure of how to do it.

I run http://otakuplayground.com and am hopping to make themes and other things for ocportal even though I no longer use it for otakuplayground.com I still love it and feel it could go far with the right help. It needs themes and needs people to advertise for it.

When editing a panel or a page choose "add block" and you will see a tag cloud block on the list :)

Can that block be used on any type of content?

Also on the content it self how do I get the tags to show up?

When you add the block there is a drop down list to choose from what type of content you want tags pulled from. If you leave it black it pulls tags from all content.

…I think you would just add the block to any content you want to show tags for and choose that content type from the drop down.

If you use it you will want to pay close attention to your key words because that is where it gets it's tags from.

Ya I mainly need the tag cloud for genres. So say the content is about comedy and horror it will have the tags of comedy and horror and those 2 are the only tags that should hopefully show at the bottom of the content but the tag cloud block needs to have all genres.

because it uses the meta keywords how do you get the meta keywords to be different then the tag cloud navigation words?

I don't know that you can do that…I think if you wanted it to work that way then your only key words for that content type would have to be comedy and horror. That would work great for your tag clouds but not your SEO.

Ya that seems to be an issue. So if I wanted to use it I would loose SEO but gain the navigation abilities I want.
I am so confused right now.
I tried a lot of cms's some used tags like bbcode or comcode like cms made simple and modx which in my opinion were not that simple.
Glfusion worked how ever the theme side of that was so complicated I gave up.
joomla did what I wanted how ever that has a lot of things in it that annoy me.
Bitweaver will do exactly what I want with no issues how ever I am unsure how SEO it is and even though the system is up to date it feels very old.
Wordpress with the right add ons works fine and was actually about to install it for the site I am working on when you replied to my other post.

Just a thought but instead of using tag clouds why not just organize your content into relevant categories and then create a menu for them?

It should work. The keywords are applied to content, not content types. So for example if you have a news article you apply the two tags to it. But the tag cloud shows all tags for all news articles (assuming you've put it in just to show news article tags).

Going by the post of yours in the other thread that would mean I would have to use the news or blog system and not the catalogues system or the cedi.

What if I want the tag cloud block as well as a thing in the article that shows which tags that article uses.

...thinking more on it why not use both. Organize it into categories then make sure all your key words are relevant to the categories and add a tag cloud. So then visitors could navigate through the menu and also through the tag clouds which would be relevant for your topics and SEO.

In the NEWS_FULL_SCREEN template, change:

Code

{$,{TAGS} Uncomment if you wish to display tags}
to just:

Code

{TAGS}

That will make the news article's tags show when you view it.

No…the links in your menu can point anywhere you want them to. And actually you wouldn't even have to make a new menu, just organize your catalogs or ceda accordingly.

Wait what?
When I create a category for cedi and then create an entry it only allows me to choose one of the categories I created. It sounds to me you want me to make links to catagories that are not set up in the system, which I think means creating a page with links to entries that need to be in that category as they are already in another category.

Read this a few more times. are you saying to create a menu that would take the place of the tag cloud?
I could do that but would need to know more of how the tags work.
Does it use the search built into ocportal? Because I have found that is some times frustrating to use specially with that 60 day cut off thing, which causes me all kinds of issues on here, specially when I am trying to find my own posts.

Yup your links can point anywhere in your site or outside of it. For example check out my site (in my signature) On the Zone menu if you look at 'website hosting' as well as 'advertising' Those are catalogs. The links in the dropdown look like this when I edit them

/site/pg/catalogues/entry/website_hosting_2/if_you_are_on_a_
budget/index.php

And the links in my store dropdown point outside my site. They point to my zazzle store

No I was thinking use both, a menu and a tag cloud and visitors find your stuff through ether or…..I think I may be getting a little confused now too

If you click on 'more' right bellow the search box you will see more options and can search back a year.
