Today i updated from v8 to v9, and things were a mess after the update. Rather than have any site downtime i decided to restore using the backups i used through bluehost.

I have restored, it didnt work. Bluehost has restored, and it didnt work. Can someone take a look at the current state of the site and offer me some advice.

The error message im getting at the moment is;

. said

PHP ERROR [1] Call to undefined function servertime_to_usertime() in sources/ocf_general.php on line 381 (version: 8.1.3, PHP version: 5.4.8, URL: /portal/index.php)

That error implies sources/temporal.php is the newer version, so the rollback was only partial.

Bluehost's restoration system seems to be terrible – it seems to be only restoring parts of what was backed up, and leaving other stuff.

This is similar to before, it's a trace of v9.

Maybe rename/move out, your current stuff, then do a restore, and complain to Bluehost if you see it's not completing the restore correctly.

Please keep us updated on this. It seems to be bluehost's responsibility, but I still want to ensure you are able to resolve.

This is really good information, thanks Ollie.

I just moved a site from provider "x" over to bluehost (basis of the "advanced migration" post here), who I've used in the past with good luck.  I'll have to make certain the back ups are actually going to be useful in the event that they're needed.

I feel your pain...the provider I just moved from makes Bluehost look awesome, so you can only imagine how bad they were.

Thanks for support everyone. I have spoken to bluehost on numerous occasions and they have restored from the daily backup, and the weekly backup. Every time we are faced with an error, and nothing we do seems to fix it.

They are now saying to me that its to do with the php memory limit, which they have increased to the max level, with no luck.

So they are telling me its a developer issue, and you are saying its a host issue.

Can anyone help? :(

If it worked before, and they're restoring a backup, I don't see how they could claim it was a software problem.

I noticed your PT to me – if you can make sure I have all the access I'll need, I'll dive in and take a look when I get a spare few minutes.

Maybe there is something wrong with their restorer that I can workaround.

While im thinking about it…are news articles stored in the database?

I have a very slightly more up to date backup that had an article on it i would like to retreive if i can. I opened the database in textedit and almost fainted.

Yes. They're in the translate table. Think of a reasonable unique substring that's in the article and search for it.

I couldnt find my article, but i did find some VERY odd things that i've never seen before. Does ocP come preloaded with any content? My database appears to have been filled with what appears to be spam!

In older versions we did hack a tendency of picking up spam trackbacks, that would be one possibility.
