I am in desperate need of some help with the 'track forum' feature! Members are getting tracking emails even when they've not opted to track any forums or threads. I've turned off the feature in their appropriate group (in fact all groups except moderators are set as 'not allowed' to track forums/threads now) People are still getting the emails :'( and now I even have an Austrian ISP getting a bit hot under the collar about my site's 'spam'. Please help!!

Hi,

Are member's getting emails for topics they've never posted in?
Please answer this and then I'll be able to look into it further.

  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about ocPortal whenever you see the opportunity.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

No, it was always in topics they'd posted in. I've actually now logged on as a few of those users and checked out where they've been and lo and behold, they DID in fact have the 'track topic' button ticked. (Our members, bless them, aren't the brightest crayons in the box) So I think I've got it solved. Sorry about that. Hard when they all swear up and down that they have/haven't ticked this or that. Thank you for the reply though :)

well they may not have ticked the track topic but I believe that if you post in a topic it automaticly tracks the topic as one of your own, hence sending you emails

I'm not real big on building skins as of right now but if you would like some custom graphics done for your site I am more than willing as long as I have the time. -\-PhrozenStudios-/-

Yes, and this auto-tracking may be turned off in their profiles.

Shouldn't it be set to "off" as default?

Spot,

No, most of the forums that I have used or setup have that as a default. If you start a topic or join in on a topic it only makes sense that you have some kind of interest in that topic or you would not have participated in it in the first place.
