I've looked through the various permissions and can't seem to find any way to disable displaying the "Statistics" block in the forums to Guests. Is there a setting somewhere for this?

looking at side_stats.php and BLOCK_SIDE_STATS.tpl, it never checks for user permissions or a config setting to show it or not.

Not that I could find.

Too bad. It would be nice to be able to decide whether to include this block or not for guests. I prefer Guests (search engines) not see this information.

Thanks, Paul.

If I get a chance in the next few days I'll see if I can figure out how to alter it so it does not display if user=guest.

Thanks, Paul.

Perhaps Chris will consider incorporating this into the distribution as it is somewhat inconsistent to not have a way to make the statistics block not appear in the forums when you need to go out of your way to include a statistics block in the rest of ocPortal.

0000079: Make the forum bars panels - ocPortal feature tracker

But you can put {+START,IF,{$NOT,{$IS_GUEST}}}{+END} into the appropriate template.

  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying ocPortal on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Chris, is there a spot in the documentation that discusses the +START and what each of the entries that can be in it do?

Thanks, Chris. I'll try to sort out which template it belongs in.

I still think you should consider making this an option in the base package. As it is now, there is no way to have no statistics available in all parts of ocPortal.

Chris-

Thanks for the help with this. I finally got around to implementing it today. Works perfectly.
